Notables Still Waiting

Some of the notables still waiting in the registration line include Tony Basile, Sam Korman, "Toothpick Tony", Alfred Grech and APT Macau champion Yevgeniy Timoshenko.

Levy Folds Set!

Grant Levy recalled a hand to us where he was forced to fold a set.

On a flop of {3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{5-Spades} three players went to war. The big blind checked to an early position player who bet out 450. Levy flat called before the big blind check-raised all in. The early position player instantly called as Levy was forced to fold his pocket threes.

His opponents tabled pocket fives and {6-Spades}{7-Spades}! The turn and river bricked out and Levy was thrilled to have dodged a couple of major bullets!

Saab Faces Uphill Climb

David Saab is well-known for the frequency of his laughter, but we suspect he may be a bit sullen right now. He tabled {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} on a board of {2-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {2-Clubs} for two pair, queens and deuces. His opponent showed {2-Spades} {2-Hearts} for quads. Saab hasn't been eliminated (and thus there was no bounty for his opponent), but he only has 800 chips left after the hand.

Time Please!

As already mentioned earlier, each player only has twenty seconds to act on their hand before it is declared dead. This should keep the speed of this tournament moveing quickly. However, we've already observed some tables, and some dealers, forget to enforce this rule. It's not something the dealers are used to, but I'm sure they'll be quick to catch on!

Bounty Tags

The bounty players today all started in the ten-seat at their tables. They are easily identified by a placard that hangs around their necks, and a "Bounty" candy bar on the table next to their chip stacks. With the recent elimination of Julian Powell, the tournament has lost it's first bounty. David Saab, upon hearing the news, thrust a lolly that he was sucking into the air.

"Yay!" cheered Saab. "It wasn't me!"

Clock Paused

The clock has been paused momentarily so that the last of the remaining registrations can be completed and players seated before the end of the first level.

Michael Chrisanthopoulos Sets Up For Deep Run

Michael Chrisanthopoulos is setting himself up for a deep run in today's event.

After his opponent raised, Chrisanthopoulos flat called out of the big blind. He then check-called his opponent's bet of 700 on the {j-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop.

The turn {8-Spades} saw Chrisanthopoulos come out fighting, firing 1,600 into his opponent. His opponent thought it over for a few moments before shipping the rest of his stack into the middle, Chrisanthopoulos didn't even think, snap calling with {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for a turned set.

His opponent {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} top pair would be no match as he headed to the rail, drawing dead before the river {5-Diamonds}.

Chrisanthopoulos has started very nicely indeed, sitting a scratch under 18,000 at the moment.

Powell Has Bountiful Amount of Time on His Hands

Julian Powell Eliminated
Julian Powell Eliminated
Preflop, the pot was opened to 150, with Powell and another player both calling before Sami Chamoun made it 750. The original raiser got out of the way, and Powell pumped all of his 2,500 chip stack into the middle. The action passed back to Chamoun, who made an instant call and tabled {Q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} and found himself racing against Powell's {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}.

Chamoun looked to be better on the flop of {2-Spades}{9-Hearts}{10-Spades}, but Powell hit the turn {a-Spades}. However, Chamoun still had plenty of outs with a flush redraw going to the river.

The river {8-Spades} would take Chamoun home and claim Powell's bounty. Powell hits the rail, among a flurry of other eliminations, as today's action starts with a bang.

Scott Over and Out

Andrew Scott has been rudely bounced from his table and the tournament. Holding {A-Clubs} {6-Clubs} against one opponent, he flopped the nut flush draw on a board of {K-Clubs} {j-Clubs} {9-Hearts}, and then turned a gutshot straight draw when the turn fell {10-Diamonds}. All of the chips went in at that point, with Scott's opponent tabling a smaller flush draw that had also made a pair -- {9-Clubs} {7-Clubs}. Scott had a mountain of outs to improve to a winner, but the board repeated {10-Spades} to eliminate him.

Khalil Busts

The Peppermint Hippo himself, Ali Khalil, has been eliminated from the tournament. Khalil found his money in the middle on a board of {6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{A-Hearts}, and holding {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts} up against the {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades} of Maryann Farrujia. The turn and river bricked {10-Diamonds}, {3-Diamonds} to send the bounty prize over to Farrujia.

"How do people flop sets?!?" Khalil was heard commenting as he exited the Crown Poker Room.
