Day 1 Completed

Day 1 Concludes, McNaughton Grabs Overnight Lead

That brings an end to play here on Day 8 of the 2009 Aussie Millions Poker Championship, and what a day it was! It started with registration lines that extended all the way across the room, and ended with our final 32 players who will now return tomorrow at 4 p.m. local time for the shootout format as they play for the seventh Gold Championship Ring of the series.

The likes of Eric Assadourian, Ben Delaney, Michael Chrisanthopoulos, Liv Boeree and Josh Field are still in contention but they will be overnight chip leader John McNaughton who grabbed the chip lead late in the day.

We'll have the full list of chip counts and the redraw for you very shortly.

Thanks for your company and we look forward to you joining us tomorrow for the conclusion of this event as well as the start of the $100k Challenge which will feature the biggest and best names the poker industry has to offer! See you then!

[Removed:415] Bubbles the Shootout Portion

We have our secondary bubble boy. [Removed:415] moved all in from the small blind after a few limpers. Tom Pongrass called the raise out of turn before Steve Boots called. On a flop of {8-Hearts} {8-Spades} {3-Clubs}, Boots moved all in for 7,700. Pongrass made the call, creating a secondary pot.

Doria: {A-Spades} {K-Hearts}
Boots: {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}
Pongrass: {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}

It was two unimproved ace-king hands against the queens of Boots. His queens held on the turn {9-Clubs} and the river {6-Hearts}. Boots climbed all the way to 117,000 as a result of this triple-up. Pongrass is down to 13,475, and Doria is out.

35th - Sherif Derias
36th - Chris Giannakelos
37th - Billy 'the Croc' Argyros
38th - Maryann Farrujia
39th - Aston Soon Shiong
40th - Brendan Woodman

Play is currently hand-for-hand on all tables.

Level: 12

Blinds: 1,000/2,000

Ante: 200

Giannakelos Eliminated

The eliminations are rapid fire now. Chris Giannakelos open-shoved his small stack with an excellent starting hand, {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades}. He was called by Liv Boeree, who showed {K-Clubs} {J-Hearts}. Bad news came on the flop for Giannakelos, as Boeree paired her king {3-Clubs} {k-Spades} {9-Clubs}. That left him looking for a one-outer or running cards. He got neither. The turn fell {7-Diamonds} and the river bricked {Q-Hearts}. He's out in 36th place, earning AU$2,520. Boeree is still in the hunt with 42,000.

Billy "the Croc" Argyros Eliminated

Croc Busto
Croc Busto
Another casualty hits the rail. Billy "the Croc" Argyros moved in preflop with his {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} and found himself up against Eric Assadourian's {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}. The board ran out {K-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {K-Spades} {6-Clubs}, making trip kings for Assadourian. In addition to all of Argyros' remaining chips, Assadourian collected a bounty worth AU$1,000. For his part, Argyros collected prize money of AU$2,520.
