If Only It Were Always that Easy

If there were one superpower that we could have, it would probably be the ability to call for a card when we need it. After Francis Ellis opened for 21,000 from under the gun and Annika Ivert called on the button, Sorel Mizzi raised for half of his stack to roughly 102,000. Ellis quickly got out of the way, but Ivert must have surprised Mizzi by moving all in. We assume Mizzi probably figured he was flipping coins with Ivert; he made the call for 217,000 total.

Ivert: {k-Spades} {K-Diamonds}
Mizzi: {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs}

Whoops! Mizzi was in very bad shape against Ivert's kings, but the flop came down {4-Clubs} {5-Spades} {6-Clubs} to give him a flush draw. With the television camera rolling and a floor supervisor announcing the action, Mizzi said three simple words in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Jack of clubs."

Was it a marked card, a psychic power, or just plain random luck? The dealer burned and turned, producing the {j-Clubs} to fill Mizzi's flush. Ivert was drawing dead and counted out the chips necessary to pay off Mizzi. He's up to 480,000 now. Ivert is down to 600,000.

Heich Joins Millionaire's Club

Barny Boatman limped from under the gun and Christian Heich raised to 26,000 from middle position. Dixon Ruecker flat called in the small blind and Boatman got out of the way.

They saw a flop of {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} and Ruecker checked to Heich, who fired 35,000. Ruecker then check-raised to 70,000, though Heich was having none of it as he put in another raise to 125,000. Ruecker looked down at his 240,000 chips and decided not to risk them and mucked.

Heich, winner of the opening event of this year's Aussie Millions Poker Championships, now joins the millionaire's club with about 1.08 million chips.

Andrew Chen Eliminated in 26th Place (AU$40,000)

Andrew Chen (from Day 2 action) - 26th Place
Andrew Chen (from Day 2 action) - 26th Place
Andrew Chen took a big hit just a few minutes ago and was left without many chips. When action folded to him on the button, he moved all in for 120,000. Small blind Elliot Smith squeezed out {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts} and reraised all in himself, in order to drive the big blind out of the hand. It worked, leaving Smith heads up with Chen.

Chen: {3-Spades} {4-Hearts}
Smith: {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts}

Chen had two live cards, but he was dead on a board that ran out {10-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {10-Spades}. He's out of the tournament early on Day 4.

Tom Pongrass Eliminated in 27th Place (AU$40,000)

Tom Pongrass - 27th Place
Tom Pongrass - 27th Place
Tom Pongrass opened with a raise to 25,000 from the cutoff and Richard Ashby made it 75,000 to go from the small blind. The big blind folded and Pongrass moved all in for his last 128,000. Ashby made the call.

Ashby: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Pongrass: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

Pongrass was looking to pair up, but the {Q-Spades}{7-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} flop was about the furthest flop he desired. He was left drawing to a running miracle.

It didn't arrive as the {2-Spades} fell on the turn and then the {8-Clubs} on the river. Pongrass departs in 27th place and Ashby is up over 800,000 chips.

Levy Can't Dodge the Flush

Grant Levy needed to dodge a few spades. On a flop of {A-Spades} {9-Spades} {10-Spades}, Levy called a bet of 27,000 chips from Peter Rho before Chris Fullwood raised all in for 221,000. That was enough to fold Rho, but Levy stuck around.

Fullwood: {K-Spades} {7-Hearts}
Levy: {A-Hearts} {6-Spades}

Fullwood was on the nut flush draw. It filled when the turn fell {J-Spades}. As a result, Fullwood doubled to 530,000. Levy is down to roughly 400,000.

Natan Meylak Eliminated in 28th Place (AU$40,000)

Natan Meylak - 28th Place
Natan Meylak - 28th Place
After being crippled in the previous hand, Natan Meylak was all in for his last 60,000 with {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} against the {A-Clubs}{10-Spades} of Rajkumar Ramakrishnan.

The board fell {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, and despite spiking a set on the river, it wasn't enough for Meylak to get past the broadway straight of Ramakrishnan.

Meylak is our first elimination of the day in 28th place for a payday of AU$40,000.

Chen Can't Get Away

Andrew Chen was in the big blind when Annica Ivert opened for 21,000 from the big blind. Chen called to see a flop of {K-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {9-Clubs}, where he check-called a bet of 30,000. The turn came {J-Diamonds}. Again Chen checked, and again Ivert bet. It was 50,000 chips to see the river. Chen made the call.

The river was not a club. It was the {6-Diamonds}. Chen checked a third time and Ivert settled on 93,000 as the right amount to bet. Chen tanked for a couple of minutes before finally calling. We never got to see his hand; as Ivert showed {10-Diamonds} {8-Spades} for the turned straight, which was a winning hand. She's up to roughly 900,000.

Lechich Hits Another Set, This Time with More Success

Tino Lechich raised to 22,000 from the cutoff and Natan Meylakh reraised to 82,000 from the button. The blinds folded and Lechich made the call.

The flop landed {Q-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and Lechich checked to Meylakh in position, who fired 190,000. Lechich check-raised all in and Meylakh made the call.

Meylakh: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}
Lechich: {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}

Meylakh had flopped top two pair, but Lechich held a set of fives for his second set of the day! The turn was the {8-Diamonds} and the river the {6-Spades}. Lechich doubled through to 805,000, leaving Meylakh short with only 61,000.

Tureniec Falls Back to Earth

So much for Michael Tureniec's huge chip lead. He was at the river of a {K-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {A-Spades} board and heads up with Peter Rho. Rho was first to act and made it 50,000 to go. Tureniec raised enough to put Rho all in, about 270,000 total. Rho tanked for several minutes before trusting his gut and made the call. Tureniec showed {A-?} {J-?} for a running two pair, but Rho had the only better two pair possible -- {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}. He's up to 600,000, while Tureniec's chip lead is completely gone. He's now on roughly 700,000.

Scott Gets Three Streets of Value from Capra

Stewart Scott raised to 19,000 from middle position and Sam Capra made the call from the big blind.

The flop arrived {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and Capra checked to Scott, who fired 25,000. Capra made a very quick call. The turn was the {2-Spades} and again Capra hastily check-called the 75,000 bet from Scott. The river brought the {J-Spades} and Capra checked for a third time to Scott, who fired a third barrel worth 120,000. Capra snap called, but mucked when Scott revealed {J-Clubs}{10-Spades} for a full house.

Scott is now up to 870,000 with Capra taking a dent to 520,000.
