Krossing the Three Million Mark

Tyron Krost is back up over three million in chips after a recent exchange with Peter Jetten.

Jetten opened the pot with a raise to 100,000 and Krost made the call from the small blind. Both players checked the {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} flop, sending the action straight to the turn -- {6-Spades} -- where Krost led out with a 150,000 bet prompting Jetten to fold.

Jetten dropped to 1.8 million in the lost.

Varoxis Wins a Million Dollar Pot

Kosta Varoxis is now sitting with 2.7 million in chips after winning a big hand against chip leader Sorel Mizzi.

Mizzi opened the pot with a raise to 90,000 from under-the-gun and when the action reached Varoxis in the small blind, he three-bet to 220,000. Peter Jetten folded his big blind and Mizzi made the call, sending the action heads-up to a {3-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Spades} flop.

Varoxis then fired a 260,000 continuation bet and Mizzie made the call. Both players checked the turn ({Q-Clubs}) and the river ({6-Diamonds}) and at the showdown, Varoxis tabled {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for the win. Sorel mucked without showing his cards.

Jensen Gaining on Mizzi

Sorel Mizzi has owned the chip lead since the very first hand, but Frederik Jensen is working hard to narrow the gap.

Mizzi opened a recent pot with a raise to 90,000 and Jensen made the call from the button. The flop came down {5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} and Mizzi fired a 100,000 continuation bet that was called by Jensen.

The {2-Diamonds} fell on the turn and Mizzi checked, Jensen bet 275,000 and Mizzi let it go.

After the hand, we counted Jensen at 3,425,000 and Mizzi at 4,300,000.

Three-way All-in Extravaganza...!

...ended anticlimactically in a chop.

No wonder, the board read {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{K-Clubs}. Sorel Mizzi gave it his best effort, open-shoving all in from the small blind, but you don't make the final table of the Aussie Millions Main Event (in most cases) without being able to read the board.

Tyron Krost made the call, as did Peter Jetten, and the three of them divvied up the small pot.

New Poker Fad: Three-betting from the Small Blind

We just witnessed back-to-back hands in which the small blind three-bet over the top of a button raise.

In the first, Sorel Mizzi opened to 95,000 on the button and Tyron Krost popped it up to 300,000. Frederik Jensen folded his big blind, and Mizzi laid down as well.

One hand later, Krost opened with a raise to 100,000 on the button and Jensen kicked it up to 295,000. Kosta Varoxis laid down his big and Krost surrendered too.

Steve Friedlander Eliminated in 6th Place ($250,000 AUD)

Steve Friedlander
Steve Friedlander
Kosta Varoxis used Big Slick as a remedy for Steve Friedlander's pocket sevens and it worked like a charm.

Frederik Jensen opened the pot with a raise to 95,000 from under-the-gun. Varoxis called, as did Peter Jetten before the action made its way around to Friedlander on the button who reraised all in for 615,000 and then walked away from the table. Jensen folded and when the action returned to Varoxis, he four-bet all in over the top prompting Jetten to get out of the way as well:

Friedlander: {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Varoxis: {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}

By the turn, the board had filled out {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{K-Hearts} and Friedlander turned to the dealer and said, "I'd like to use my one-time."

The river blanked, {J-Spades}, and Varoxis took down the pot with trip kings to improve to 2,275,000 in chips.

No Annette_15 = +EV for Friedlander

Annette Obrestad's exit from the main event sparked a bit of a discussion on the TwoPlusTwo Forums during the break, and Steve Friedlander, aka 'renodoc' on TwoPlusTwo, offered his two cents:

Re: Annette Obrestad; 2010 Aussie Millions Event 4 Champion/FT at Aussie Millions ME

A bit strange open-shove from how she was playing, but ++++++$$$$EV for me so whatever.

Doubling up without doubling up is good.

Early Action

The first six hands after play recommenced consisted of three raise-and-takes and three walks.
It looks like everyone's post-dinner plan is to ease back into a rhythm and see what develops.

Also, Steve Friedlander came back from the break wearing a different hat, ditching his Akubra hat for a Roger Federer Nike baseball hat.
