Day 3 is Upon Us

Welcome back to the Crown Poker Room for Day 3 of the 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event.

We have 83 players remaining; 11 of which will go home with empty pockets and a story to tell as only 72 players will reach the cash stage of this tournament. It's going to be an interesting start to the day as the big stacks apply the pressure and the shorties have some nervous moments. It's all part of the the thrill of tournament poker!

We've been advised that all 83 players will start in the main poker room, perhaps to ensure hand-for-hand play runs smoothly on the bubble. Some tables may move up to Studio 3 later on in the day as the field reduces.

The players are taking their seats, unbagging their chips and the cards will be underway in about ten minutes time. Stay locked into PokerNews.com for all of your live updates!

Lederer First Elimination of the Day

Moments ago, Howard Lederer became the first player to hit the rail on Day 3.

Stephen Shelly opened with a raise to 8,000, Lederer moved all in for about 40,000 and Shelly made the call:

Lederer: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Shelly: {K-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

The board then ran out {7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} giving Shelly top pair, sending the Full Tilt Czar to the rail.

Farewell Faure

Nick Faure entered the day as a short stack but was unable to find the double up he required. He made a move preflop with {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} but James Keys made the call with {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}.

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades}{K-Diamonds} pairing up Keys and sending Faure to the exit. Keys is up to 125,000.

The board filled out {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{J-Spades}{2-Spades} and Kaiser raked in the pot, improving to 285,000 in chips.

Nasr Crippled, But Doubles Back

It seems to be the norm here at the Aussie Millions for players to slowroll their opponents. It happened again here.

From middle position, Fouad Chaptini in middle position and he raised to 10,500. A few spots over, [Removed:197] moved all in for 70,500. When action got back to Chaptini, he tanked for about two or three minutes. He had just about as many chips as Nasr went all in for to start the hand.

Eventually, Chaptini made the call. He waited to see Nasr's hand -- {8-Spades}{8-Hearts} -- before revealing his hand. He held {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.

The board ran out {A-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and Nasr got up from his seat to leave the tournament area. The staff had to run and grab him to let him know that he had 2,000 chips left after the final count of the stacks.

Nasr returned to his seat and paid his 500 ante. On the next hand, he moved all in for 1,500 and action folded to the small blind. There sat Tyler Bonkowsi and he raised to 10,500. The big blind folded and Bonkowski and Nasr were heads up.

Nasr: {Q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}
Bonkowski: {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}

The board ran out {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and Nasr collected the pot to move to 8,500 chips.

Shak Attack

Dan Shak, who posted a victory in the $100,000 Challenger earlier this week, looks in fine shape to make another deep run in the Main Event, as he's now second in chips overall with the recent elimination of Andreas Johansson.

On a flop showing {A-Clubs}{8-Spades}{9-Clubs}, Peter Aristidou checked, as did Johansson, before the action reached Shak in the cutoff who made it 20,000 to go. Aristidou called and then the decision returned to Johansson who moved all in. Shak then moved all in over the top, isolating Johansson and Aristidou got out of their way:

Shak: {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Johansson: {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The turn and river then filled out {4-Clubs}, {J-Spades} and Shak's aces held up to eliminate Johansson from the tournament.

Shak stacked up 520,000 in chips in the victory.

Ladies for the Lady

Jessica Dawley is up to 250,000 early after a timely four-bet enabled her to add an extra 40,000 to her stack.

Jens Kemper opened with a raise to 11,500 from early position and action folded around to Brian Rodgers who bumped it up to 28,500. A couple more folds sent the action over to Dawley on the button and she kicked it up to 100,000. Kemper quickly folded and Rodgers tank folded, showing {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}.

Dawley graciously turned over her hand as well -- {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}.
