Mercier Slips

Jason Mercier, Kyle Cheong and a third player took a flop of {j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. A player in the blinds led out for 1,150, Mercier called, and Cheong called as well.

The turn was the {7-Spades}, all three players checked, and the {8-Clubs} completed the board. The player led out again - this time for 3,550 - and only Mercier called.

The player rolled over {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} for two kings, and Mercier checked his cards one last time before sending them into the muck.

The Lifelong Aussie Millions Player is Here

Tyron Krost in 2010 after taking down the Aussie Millions Main Event
Tyron Krost in 2010 after taking down the Aussie Millions Main Event

He's probably still far behind players like Joe Hachem and Lee Nelson who've played the Aussie Millions Main Event for many years, but Tyron Krost will catch up with them at some point. The young Australian poker professional won the Main Event here in Melbourne back in 2010, which resulted in a A$2,000,000 payday, but on top of that he took down a very important Sit and Go last year.

Krost took down the Tournament of Champions against seven other former Main Event winners last year and the first place prize in that event was a golden Aussie Millions ticket. Krost will have a ticket into every single Aussie Millions Main Event for the rest of his life, and today he's cashing in his second of many tickets!

Pantling vs. Lunardi

Kristian Lunardi and Andrew Pantling were heads up on a board of {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{7-Clubs}. There was about 4,000 in the middle, and when we reached the table, Pantling had 5,500 sitting in front of him. We're not sure of the amount of the bet was 5,500, or if he was betting 4,500, 3,500, or 2,500 and didn't have change, but the action was on Lunardi.

He tanked for the better part of a minute, checked his cards one last time, then tossed them into the muck.

Rockowitz Wins a Small One

Jesse Rockowitz, who won a World Series of Poker bracelet in 2010, is in the field today. He was recently heads up in a pot with the board reading {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}. Rockowitz's opponent tossed out a bet, and Rockowitz called.

The river was the {5-Clubs}, and the player fired 1,100. Rockowitz tanked for the better part of a minute, then called. The player tabled {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for nines and sevens, but Rockowitz had that beat with {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for tens and nines.

He shipped the pot, and now has around 34,000 chips.

Time For The Second Starting Day

At 12:30 PM local time the second starting day of the Aussie Millions Main Event will kick off. There's seven 90-minute levels on the schedule with a 15-minute break after every level. There will be a 75-minute dinner break after the completion of the fourth level and because of that play will finish around 1:30 AM.

We expect to see many familiar faces once again as the Crown Poker Room is quickly filling up. As of right now there are 157 players registered for Day 1b with registration open all day.

Also happening later today, just across the other side of the room, will be the final table of the $100k Challenge. We all know $100,000 is a lot of money, and these players often invest it in major poker tournaments such as this, but if they had that cash to freely spend off-the-felt, what would they buy?
