Timothy Rutherford

Event #3 of the Borgata Winter Poker Open was the $500 Black Chip Bounty NLH. There was a Borgata Poker record-setting field for the event with a massive 1,165 entries creating a prize pool of over $395,000.

The dust settled in the early morning hours in the Event Center and Timothy Rutherford was the last man standing. He built a big stack early in the night and stayed near the top of the chip counts throughout.

He entered the final table in second chip position but it didn't take long for Rutherford to pull ahead after eliminating David Finley.

Rutherford then sent two more players to the rail eliminating Benson Tang in seventh and David Frutchey in fifth.

The stacks were nearly even entering heads-up play against Louis Pelletteri, but Rutherford pulled ahead and never looked back earning $86,118 and his first Borgata Winter Poker Open trophy.

Louis Pelletteri Eliminated in 2nd Place ($51,417)

Level 32 : 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Louis Pelletteri
Louis Pelletteri

Louis Pelletteri raised to 400,000 and Timothy Rutherford called. They saw a flop of {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and Pelletteri check-called a bet of 300,000 from Rutherford.

The turn was the {7-Spades} and Pelletteri check-called a bet of 1,200,000. The {5-Spades} completed the board and Pelletteri checked to Rutherford who bet 5,000,000.

Pelletteri check-raised all in for about 9,000,000 and Rutherford quickly called. "Nice call" said Pelletteri as he knuckled the felt turning over {j-Spades}{9-Spades}.

Rutherford showed {q-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for two pair and the two players shook hands. Pelletteri is our Event #3 runner up and he will take home $51,417 for his second place finish.

Matranca Cracks Tang's Aces

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Martin Matranca
Martin Matranca

Benson Tang raised to 130,000 from under the gun and Martin Matranca moved all in for 1,620,000 from middle position. It folded back to Tang who snap called turning over {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and Matranca showed {a-Spades}{k-Spades}.

"How do you just have aces" said Matranca just as the dealer fanned the {q-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop.

Matranca picked up the nut flush draw and asked the dealer for his "one time."

Right on cue the {5-Spades} hit the turn and Matranca improved to the nut flush to take the lead. The {j-Clubs} river card sealed the deal for Matranca to earn him the pot and the double up.

Level 26 : 30,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Benson Tang
Benson Tang

Benson Tang raised to 110,000 from late position and both of the blinds called. They saw a flop {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{5-Spades} flop and it checked to Tang who bet 160,000.

Diolosa check-raised to 360,000 and Tang called. They went heads up to the {8-Diamonds} turn card and Diolosa fired out a bet of 425,000.

Tang called and the {3-Spades} completed the board. Diolosa bet 330,000 and Tang moved all in tossing a black $100 bounty chip into the pot.

Diolosa called for his last 500,000 turning over {k-Spades}{j-Clubs} for a king high flush but Tang did one better as he showed {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for the nut flush.

Diolosa was eliminated in 18th place earning $2,116 and Tang is the first player to cross the half a million chip mark.

Nerenberg check-raised all in for about 800,000 and Rutherford snap called. Nerenberg showed {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} but he was drawing dead against the {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades} of Rutherford.

The meaningless {3-Clubs} hit the river and Nerenberg was eliminated in 22nd place earning $1,780 for his efforts.
