Dario Five-Bets the 'Ol Deuce-Five

Isabelle may have no mercy, but I have no fear!
Isabelle may have no mercy, but I have no fear!
It was only a matter of time before hyper-aggressors Dario Minieri and Ramzi Jelassi clashed. The hand in question went something like this.

An early position player opened for 450. Minieri reraised to 850 and Jelassi came over the top for 2,250. The original raiser folded and Minieri popped it again, this time to 6,000. After a short stint in the tank, Jelassi folded {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} while Minieri mucked {2-Spades} {5-Clubs} face-up as he raked in the pot.

"You are mentally ill!" cried Mark Teltscher who was watching the hand from an adjacent table.

"I thought you might fold jacks or queens" reasoned Minieri.

"I'm NEVER folding jacks or queens!" laughed Jelassi.

Teltscher Back in the Game, Event

Mark Teltscher has picked up a chunky pot to put him back on his starting stack. With the board reading {2-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {K-Spades} he bet 1,000 from the button when the gent in the small blind checked to him, but received a call. "Club!" came a shout which I believe came from Teltscher; this made no sense at all, but it is hard to tell with Teltscher. Come the {A-Spades} river, the small blind bet out 2,000 and Teltscher called. The small blind turned over {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs} for the busted flush draw, and Teltscher's {A-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} was good to take the pot. "Back in the game," said Teltscher with satisfaction. And to clarify, "Back in the event."

Mizzi Busts Out

Sorel Mizzi is out, his full house no good against Brian Jensen's bigger house. I arrived at the very tail end of the hand so it's hard to say exactly what happened, but I strongly suspect that the majority of the chips went in on the cruel river.

Mizzi: {9-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}
Jensen: {9-Clubs} {9-Spades}

Board: {K-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {9-Hearts}

Levi Wins a Race

Some good fortune for UK-dwelling French trilby enthusiast Nicolas Levi, and some poor luck for the gentleman he knocked out. Levi made it 500 from the button, and the gent on the small blind made it 1,700. Levi re-popped him for 10,000, covering him, and the small blind announced, "I think I'm going to have to call," and did just that.

Levi: {J-Spades} {J-Hearts}
Small blind: {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}

Board: {5-Spades} {5-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {5-Diamonds}

The newly-busted small blind wished the whole table good luck, and wandered off into the casino. Levi is now up to 21,000.

Jepsen Doubles Up

Peter Jepsen and an opponent made it as far the turn of a {9-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} board when it all kicked off. It appeared that Jepsen, on the cutoff, had checked to his opponent on the button, and said opponent had bet 7,000, leaving himself just 800 behind. Jepsen dwelled up long enough to have clock called on him before moving all in. His opponent, obviously, called.

Jepsen: {A-Spades} {9-Spades} for top pair
Opponent on the cutoff: {5-Diamonds} {6-Spades} for a straight draw

River: {K-Hearts}

Jepsen clapped his hands for joy, and enjoys a full double up to around 23,000. The hapless gent on the cutoff is down to just 225 and most likely not long for this tournament.
