French-on-French Violence

Arnaud Mattern moved all in for 17,000 and Antony Lellouche made the call. Lellouche turned up {8-Hearts} {8-Spades} and found himself a huge favorite against Mattern's {2-Spades} {2-Diamonds}.

The flop was {7-Spades} {4-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}, Lellouche still leading. The turn was the {3-Clubs}, but the {2-Hearts} spiked on the river, making Mattern a set as the rail "Oooohed" at the river suck-out.

Things continue to go south for onetime chip leader Lellouche, who is now down to 26,000.

Lellouche Lets Loose, and Quads for Csaba

A few minor disasters for Lellouche have resulted in his stack being almost halved to 50,000.

First, he raised to 4,000 and then, with a wince, called a push from Csaba Toth. Lellouche's pocket deuces were behind from the start against Toth's pocket eights, and as the flop came down {Q-?} {8-?} {8-?} givingToth quads and leaving Lellouche drawing dead, the turn and river were deemed unnecessary. Toth doubled up to 37,000 while Lellouche dropped to 72,000.

Then a few hands later, Lellouche doubled up Nico Behling to 46,000, Behling's {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs} dominating Lellouche's {A-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}. Three hearts came down on the board, but no fourth one for the flush appeared. Down to 50,000 for a rather disgruntled Lellouche.

Grzegorz Mikielewicz Eliminated

Grzegorz Mikielewicz is out, somehow getting his chips in with {Q-Spades} {2-Spades} against Marty Smyth's {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades}; Smyth made a full house for good measure and the high-Scrabble-scoring Grzegorz Mikielewicz is no more for this tournament.

Board: {A-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {6-Hearts}

Sebastian Ruthenberg Eliminated

Ruthen-bust
Ruthen-bust
Sebastian Ruthenberg opened for 4,600, Patric Martensson reraised to 18,000, Ruthenberg moved all in and Martensson insta-called.

It was a classic race, Ruthenberg's {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades} up against Martensson's {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}. Martensson paired up on the {A-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {2-Clubs} flop and Ruthenberg couldn't improve on the {7-Spades} turn or the {8-Spades} river.

When the stacks were counted down, all but 1,100 of Ruthenberg's 60,000+ chips were shipped across the table to Martensson, who is now on 123,000.

Ruthenberg's 1,100 chips were posted in the big blind on the next hand. Isabelle Mercier opened for 3,800, Atanas Gueorguiev reraised to 11,400 and Mercier folded. Ruthenberg looked at his cards for the first time to discover {6-Spades} {7-Diamonds}, and was up against {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts} once again. {K-Spades} {10-Spades} {5-Spades} {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} on the board and the EPT Barcelona champion hit the rail.

Ruthenberg Doubles Through Krause

A big hand for Sebastian Ruthenberg just before they broke for dinner. He bet out 2,700 from the small blind on the turn of a {10-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} board, and Katja Thater in the big blind called. Andreas Krause, on the button, made it 16,000 and Ruthenberg paused before announcing all in for around 30,000 total. Thater folded but Krause called; on their backs, he sighed, as his straight was drawing thin against Ruthenberg's flush. Ruthenberg more than doubled up around 60,000, while Krause will be coming back after dinner with just 10,000 in chips.

Ruthenberg: {A-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}
Krause: {K-Spades} {9-Diamonds}

Board: {10-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}

Floan the Nest

Mark Teltscher is up to an eye-watering 105,000 after knocking out an unfortunate Thomas Floan. Floan, very reasonably, got his chips in with {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts} on an admittedly dangerous {2-Spades} {7-Spades} {J-Spades} flop and Teltscher called with {K-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}. The flush came in on the {3-Spades} turn, leaving Floan drawing dead before the {4-Spades} river, and he sat there for a while in horror while Teltscher said unhelpful things like, "You played well," before eventually getting up and taking his leave.

French-Watch

Ludovic Lacay is catching up to his fellow countryman Antony Lellouche; he's on around 100,000 as everyone heads off to dinner.

Meanwhile, the ever-precarious stack of Arnaud Mattern rests at 23,000 until the end of the dinner break. He had some more, but they ended up in the possession of Hans Eskilsson, who turned over {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} to take a chunky pot on an {8-?} {2-?} {Q-?} {K-?} {J-?} board, putting him up to 58,000.
