What a Difference a Hand Makes!

Just when it looked like he was on the serious decline, Daniel Alaei doubled through with a lifesaving {K-Hearts} {K-Spades} vs. {A-?} {Q-?} all in preflop. Back with some breathing room, a huge pot shipped him back into what surely must be one of the top chip positions.

On a flop of {5-Spades} {2-Spades} {Q-Hearts}, his flopped set of queens was going nowhere when Roberto Romanello made a stand, all in with {A-Spades} {7-Spades}. The nut flush draw missed the {5-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} turn and river completely, and Alaei's stack is plump and healthy once again.

Pace Not Slowed, But Nothing Showed

Both tables are suffering from a lack of cards to report, simply because the action (and there's a lot of it) is taking place preflop for the most part.

Two examples: Daniel Alaei, whose stack has shrunk to 151,000, limped in under the gun for 8,000. John Kabbaj raised to 48,000. Big blind Vanessa Rousso considered his bet and asked for his stack size, but passed, as did the onetime chip leader.

Alaei had another go at it -- raising this time preflop, but passing when big blind Roberto Romanello moved all in.

Steicke Stuck Nearly 200K

David Eldar, prior to that hand, was going to get the dwell/bet combo prize for his consideration of a 62,000 bet out from David Steicke on the {10-Spades} {K-Spades} {10-Hearts} flop. Preflop, Steicke had raised, and called a circa 100,000 reraise from the in-position Eldar. He had around 100,000 behind at this point, and after a very long time, Eldar put his opponent all in -- and was rewarded with a quick pass.

Giuetting Paid!

Giuetti: half a mil
Giuetti: half a mil
The chip success story of the last two levels, Anthony Giuetti, just doubled through in a massive pot against Daniel Alaei. There was already a lot in the middle (estimate around 150,000, but could have been more) when I caught this on the river. Big blind Giuetti had bet all in (180,000 exactly) on a board of {10-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}. Alaei tanked. For a very long time. He counted out the 180,000, put it back. Counted it again. Stared. Five minutes later he suddenly announced, "Call."

Giuetti tabled {10-Spades} {7-Spades} and Alaei just stared at it for about 20 seconds before mucking and paying the man his money.

Ziigmund Finishes in 15th

Sahamies: Close but no cigar
Sahamies: Close but no cigar
With his stack halved by William Thorson so recently, the rest of Ilari Sahamies' chips just went his way too. {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs} was Sahamies' final hand, up against the {K-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} of Thorson. Rags until the river when a {K-Clubs} sealed his fate.

Thorson and Feldman Double Their Money

Feldman: texting his joy
Feldman: texting his joy
Short stacks are doubling up all over the shop as we near the end of the level.

First off, William Thorson vs. Ilari Sahamies: on a board of {7-Clubs} {2-Spades} {K-Clubs} {3-Hearts} Thorson bet out around 35,000 into a pot of about the same size. Sahamies took more time than I've seen him take all tournament to decided on a course of action -- he raised. Thorson was all in and called then in the blink of an eye, and he was ahead with {K-Hearts} {10-Hearts}. Sahamies with {7-Spades} {6-Spades} paid the man his money.

On the other table, Andrew Feldman had raised preflop and picked up a caller in Florian Langmann. Feldman's {10-Spades} {10-Clubs} hit a set on the flop, and he got his 100,000 or so in easily -- Langmann held {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs}! A delighted Feldman stood up, clapped his hands once, and stacked his new chips.

Alaei Takes 100K Off David Steicke

Daniel Alaei just won a tidy pot from David Steicke, calling him in position and continuing to do so. He called Steicke's 25,000 bet on the {6-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} flop, his 60,000 bet on the {5-Spades} turn, and then checked behind on the {6-Spades} river. He showed down {Q-Clubs} {9-Spades} which was good enough to take the pot.

I don't think there's been a level Daniel Alaei hasn't climbed at least a little ways in chips today.

ElkY Runs into Aces Again; Still Over 200K

Kabbaj: fully qualified
Kabbaj: fully qualified
ElkY has doubled up John Kabbaj too, who (I think) just flat-called preflop, check-raised the flop and moved in on the turn. His {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades} was good.

Not a bad run, last two tables, for someone who satellited in on the last chance live sat the night before the whole thing started!
