Puumalainen Doubles

Mika Puumalainen
Mika Puumalainen
An opponent bet 12,000 on the flop of {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{7-Spades} into Mika Puumalainen. With 28,450 left, Puumalainen moved all in. His opponent made the call.

Puumalainen: {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}

The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and the river the {3-Diamonds} to give Puumalainen a backdoor flush and he now has over 60,000 chips.

A Double Up for Fitzgerald

We walked over to Alex Fitzgerald's table and saw two sets of cards on their backs. Fitzgerald held the {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and his opponent the {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. The board was laid out in the middle as {Q-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{Q-Spades} as were all 19,000 of Fitzgerald's chips. Fitzgerald had made a full house and earned a double up to 44,000.

Vlad Riding the River

Vlad Zguba
Vlad Zguba
Vicky Coren flopped a pair of kings, but Vlad Zguba rivered a set of nines to scoop a nice pot. The next hand, he was heads up to the flop with Arnaud Mattern.

Flop: {J-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} - Zguba checked to Mattern, who checked behind.

Turn: {Q-Spades} - Zguba bet 1,000, and Mattern bumped it up to 3,250. After a minute, Zguba called.

River: {J-Spades} - Vlad checked, and Mattern didn't fall for it. Arnaud showed {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}, but Zguba had once again gotten there on the river with {A-Spades} {J-Diamonds}. "Nice call," said Arnaud, shaking his head.

Who's Doing Well?

Mr. Jeff Sarwer, of PokerNews.com video fame, has somehow leapt from just 11,000 to a commanding 70,000 while no-one was looking.

But Mr. Sarwer's achievements are as nothing to those of Mr. Michael Huber. On a whopping 120,000 right now, he is our current chip leader as we creep towards the dinner break.

God Helps Those Who Helppi Themselves

Also doing well was Juha Helppi - he was up to over 70,000 until he got involved in a raising war from the button with the gentleman in the hijack. Helppi had invested 12,000 in the hand before Mr. Hijack went all in for perhaps another 40,00, driving Helppi into the tank. When he emerged he folded and dipped to a still thoroughly above-average 60,000.

Nasr in Outer Space

The young gentleman on the button raised to 1,050k, only for a still rather spooked-looking [Removed:197] to make it 2,775 from the small blind. Mr. Button called and they saw a flop.

Flop: {10-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}

[Removed:198] bet out 1,975 - and Mr. Button gave it up right there without a fight.

Top Pair Not Enough for Coren

Vicky Coren was heads up on a {J-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {3-Diamonds} flop. Her opponent bet out, and Coren called. The turn was the suspicious {5-Clubs}. Her opponent moved all in for 14,600. Coren thought about it for a minute before making the call with {A-Hearts} {J-Spades}. She needed either an ace, a jack, or a deuce to beat the other player's {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}. The river was the {6-Clubs}, dropping Coren down to around 45,000.

Keiner Gets a Helppi Hand

Juha Helppi continued his downward trend, but it was nice of him to double up fellow-pro Michael Keiner. Helppi opened to 1,000 from the cutoff, and Keiner reraised to 3,000 from the small blind. Helppi paid to see the {10-Clubs} {5-Spades} {2-Clubs} flop. Keiner only had 6,725 left, which he swiftly moved into the middle. "I guess I have to call now, since I called pre," said Helppi.

Showdown
Helppi: {J-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}
Keiner: {A-Hearts} {A-Spades}

The {4-Diamonds} turn and {Q-Clubs} river changed nothing, and Keiner lived to play another hand. Helppi still has around 50,000.

Play That Finke Music

Ben Kang, Andy Finke and another player all saw a {2-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {4-Clubs} flop; Kang checked, the third player bet, Finke called, and then Kang called too.

All three players checked the {3-Hearts} turn, and then they checked the {Q-Hearts} river too. Mr. Third Player turned over {10-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} and Kang mucked as soon as he saw it, but Finke turned over pocket {J-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} and the pot went to him.
