Adios, Ainsworth

Due to the throng of media crowded into the ropes, we couldn't make it close enough to the table to see what was happening when Team PokerStars Pro Jude Ainsworth stood up and leaned over the table for a minute or so. What we could see was him nod slowly, wish his table luck, and head out of the room; we think it's fair to assume he came out on the losing end of his final hand.

Marku-shove-ski Making Bank

Markushevski
Markushevski
It's been a much better half hour for Team PokerStars Pro Vadim Markushevski than for his tablemate, Anas Tadini. Both began the day with stacks over 175k (35 bb). They got into a raising war preflop and ended up all in. Tadini had Markushevski slightly covered and completely dominated.

Showdown
Tadini: {K-?} {K-?}
Markushevski: {K-?} {Q-?}

One queen on the flop was ok for Tadini, but the cruel, cruel lady on the river dashed his dreams and shipped the massive pot to Markushevski. The Belorussian now has well over 300,000.

Tadini is doing his best with a very short stack, doubling up to almost 6 big blinds when his {J-Spades} {10-Diamonds} made a spade four-flush against Andras Nemeth's {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs}. On the bright side, if Tadini busts, he'll finally be able to change the lucky blue and white sweat suit he's now been rocking for three days.

Enough is Enough

We try to give the players the benefit of the doubt, but it has become clear that French poker etiquette is not quite as refined as it could (or probably should) be. In the last few moments, there have been several annoyingly loud outbursts of celebration from French players in different parts of the room. To be honest, it's a bit out of line, and it's starting to get a bit out of hand.

Just a moment ago, a French player was all in with pocket aces against another player's pocket queens. "Allez, papa!" he yelled several times at the top of his lungs. When an ace appeared on the flop, the man with the set screamed exuberantly directly into the face of his opponent. Tournament Director Thomas Kremser finally had enough, and he grabbed a microphone.

"Ladies and gentlemen. I know you are in an exciting environment and emotions are running high. But some of you are shouting and jumping and everything. It's not appropriate, and it's disturbing the other players. We ask you please, keep your emotions under control. If you do not, it may and will result in a penalty."

The public service announcement was repeated in French to make sure the offenders got the message.

We're now just about one table away from hitting the money, so we'll soon find out if Kremser's words have made an impression or not.

Short Stack Attack

It's a short stack pushing party here right now!

Most recently, we witnessed a preflop showdown between these monstrous holdings...

Jessy Jean Gabichon: all in for very little with {A-?} {9-?}
[Removed:82]: couldn't help himself with {10-?} {2-?}

No-one hit anything, and Gabichon doubled to the heady heights of 75,000 - that's 15 big blinds. Michot slips to 80,000 - or 16 big blinds. The bubble approaches...

Eastgate Puts Up a De-fence

Peter Eastgate
Peter Eastgate
Jean Gobin raised to 17,000 from the cutoff, and Peter Eastgate, who had dropped about a third of his stack earlier in the level, defended his small blind. They were heads up to the flop: {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {8-Spades}.

Eastgate checked, and Gobin bet 20,000. A quick call from Peter brought the {2-Spades} on the turn. Check/check to the {7-Hearts}. Check/check again, and Eastgate tabled {Q-Hearts} {J-Hearts}. Gobin started to muck, then showed his {6-?} {6-?} just for fun. After scooping the pot, Eastgate and his blindingly busy hoodie are on 225,000.

Good Things Come to Those Who Get Outdrawn

Maxat Albayev raised , and Anas Tadini, virtually felted after getting his his kings cracked earlier, moved all in for barely less than the raise. With aces, naturally. Albayev called with queens, and the board was dealt.

Board: {9-Spades} {6-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {A-Spades} {A-Clubs}

Tadini, by now thoroughly worked up, banged the table when the first ace came out, and then completely lost it when the second one came. The noise from his table prompted an announcement from TD Thomas Kremser that it would be appreciated by everyone if players could keep a lid on their emotions.

Tadini is on around 75,000.
