Enough is Enough

We try to give the players the benefit of the doubt, but it has become clear that French poker etiquette is not quite as refined as it could (or probably should) be. In the last few moments, there have been several annoyingly loud outbursts of celebration from French players in different parts of the room. To be honest, it's a bit out of line, and it's starting to get a bit out of hand.

Just a moment ago, a French player was all in with pocket aces against another player's pocket queens. "Allez, papa!" he yelled several times at the top of his lungs. When an ace appeared on the flop, the man with the set screamed exuberantly directly into the face of his opponent. Tournament Director Thomas Kremser finally had enough, and he grabbed a microphone.

"Ladies and gentlemen. I know you are in an exciting environment and emotions are running high. But some of you are shouting and jumping and everything. It's not appropriate, and it's disturbing the other players. We ask you please, keep your emotions under control. If you do not, it may and will result in a penalty."

The public service announcement was repeated in French to make sure the offenders got the message.

We're now just about one table away from hitting the money, so we'll soon find out if Kremser's words have made an impression or not.
