Day 1b, Here We Go

PokerStars Express - final destination
PokerStars Express - final destination
Good morning and welcome back to sunny, charming and all-round delightful San Remo, where Day 1b of this year's Most Popular EPT is preparing to kick off.

Although numbers were expected to smash last year's total of 1,178 - we were well on track for a record-beating field when yesterday's Day 1a attracted 585 players - the numbers for today could be affected by the cloud of volcanic ash currently grounding flights all across Europe.

This, compounded further by the train strike in France, has already caused a few players to drop out, but yesterday PokerStars came up with an ingenious solution to the problem. A bus - let us call it the PokerStars Express - was chartered to ferry a number of high-profile players including Peter Eastgate, Barry Greenstein, Jason Mercier, and Dan O'Brien - across to Italy. They have been travelling through the night, and are expected to arrive at the Casino San Remo a little after the official noon start time. Registration has been extended until 5pm to accommodate any brave stalwarts who do manage to somehow ship themselves across here without the use of trains or planes. We at PokerNews would like to wish all travellers to San Remo the very best of luck, and look forward to seeing what kind of state they're in when they get here.

Big names who are definitely going to make it here include Joe Cada, Jon Aguiar and ElkY. Whatever happens, today is looking like it's going to be a big day, and a good one.
