Not Going Baekke To Schul

Bække in the money
Bække in the money
Allan Baekke just took a big pot off Nick Schulman, but he had to make four bets to get the bracelet-winner off his hand.

Baekke raised to 35,000 from the button and Schulman called in the small blind, Baekke then fired 37,000 on the {5-Hearts} {5-Spades} {10-Clubs} flop, 82,000 on the {J-Hearts} turn and 145,000 on the {3-Clubs} river. Schulman check-called the first two bets but on the river he tanked into the break for several minutes while most of the other players left the table. Finally, he released his hand and the chip leader Baekke just got a whole lot richer.

Mazza Crumbles

Jens "Brother Of William" Thorson raised from the cutoff only for Sylvain Jean Mazza to shove from the small blind. Atanas Gueorguiev reraised from the big blind, Thorson decided he was beaten and gave it up, and Mazza and Gueorguiev were on their backs, as it were.

Mazza: {A-Hearts} {10-Clubs}
Gueorguiev: {A-Spades} {K-Clubs}

Board: {10-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}

Duly Mazza took his leave and Gueorguiev moved up to over a million.

Abacus Starts To Count Them Up

Michel Abecassis
Michel Abecassis
Vincenzo Pisano limped preflop and Michel "The Abacus" Abecassis limped behind allowing the blinds to join in a four-way pot. On the {10-Spades} {2-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} flop, it was checked to Pisano who bet 55,000, Abecassis raised to 135,000 and the blinds folded.

Pisano debated what to do since he only had about 250,000 or so behind, he went to push his stack all-in and Abecassis did the same, but then Pisano then cheekily stopped. Abecassis did also, pointing to his grey hairs saying he knew all the tricks in the game.
Pisano went back into the tank and another player called time, then Pisano decided not to push or fold, but to actually call instead.

The turn was the {8-Clubs} and Pisano checked then called off the rest of his stack when Abecassis set him in. Pisano flipped {A-Hearts} {10-Clubs} but was behind to {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} and the river was the {10-Diamonds} making Abecassis a full house. Pisano was eliminated and Abecassis has 1.2 million.

Couldn't Be Wuhrs

Claus Uhrskov must have been delighted to get it in with pocket aces against Tobias Huber's {5-Clubs} {6-Clubs}, but not so happy when the board came down {10-?} {7-?} {4-?} {7-?} {3-?} to make Huber a straight. Uhrskov duly exited, and presumably can now be found throwing up in the little boys' room...

Duc Chops

Thang Duc Nguyen opened to 42,000 from early position, and a player across the table flat-called before Antonio Buonanno squeezed all in for 242,000 out of the blinds. When it came back to Nguyen, he re-shoved over the top. The monkey in the middle tank-folded, and Buonanno was at risk for his tournament life.

Showdown
Nguyen: {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}
Buonanno: {A-Hearts} {K-Spades}

Board: {J-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {A-Clubs} {3-Clubs}

Well, that's just not very climactic, now is it? Chop it up, and let's play the next hand.

Out-kicked, and Kicked Out

Luigi Alessandro was starting to get short on chips when he made his stand with {A-Clubs} {8-Clubs} in a preflop all in. Unfortunately for him, Giuseppe Pantaleo woke up with the dominating {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}, and the news would not improve from there. The dealer ran out a board full of blanks: {3-Clubs} {10-Spades} {4-Hearts} {3-Spades} {9-Spades}. That's no help to Alessandro, and he is the latest victim of Day 4.

By The Hammer Of Thor-son

Jens Thorson, the younger brother of Pokerstars Team Pro William Thorson, is up to 1.7 million in chips. The Swede just knocked out Thomas Meyer Swensen blind on blind when the latter’s {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} was no good against the {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts} belonging to Thorson after a {9-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {2-Hearts} {10-Hearts} board.

Sixy Time For Abecassis

Alfio Battisti has left this tournament perhaps cursing his timing, he raised to 36,000 from the cutoff and Michel Abecassis called on the button. The flop was {J-Hearts} {7-Spades} {6-Clubs} and Battisti fired out 41,000, Abecassis quickly made it 91,000 and Battisti moved in with Abecassis calling even faster than that.

Battisti showed {A-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} but was drawing almost dead against the Frenchman’s {6-Hearts} {6-Diamonds}, the {10-Clubs} turn spelt the end for the Italian pro while Abecassis housed up on the {7-Hearts} river.
