Ruling Turns Out Nice for Coelho

Phew
Phew
Nuno Coelho opened for 700 and there was a call behind; in the small blind, Stefan Huber made it 3,025 to go.

The action moved back on Coelho, who attempted to call but did so with two chips, a 5,000-denomination one and a 25-denomination one. Although he was just trying to make things easier for the dealer, the floor was called over and it was ruled a raise; he was forced to put another 300 in...

...And then everybody folded! Hilarity all round the table.

Queso Melting His Opponents

We just caught part of another hand involving Jim Collopy. The board showed {A-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {K-Hearts} when we joined, and there was about 6,000 already in the pot. Stefan Huber led out into the pot for 4,175 chips, and Collopy tanked it up for a minute or two. Eventually, he settled on a raise to 9,375, and Huber made a relatively quick call.

The last card off was the {2-Spades}, and Huber checked. Collopy took his pause for another minute before moving his full stack all in. Huber's cards instantly hit the muck, and "Queso" moves his way up to about 72,000 courtesy of that pot.

Game, Set, Match - Boris Becker Eliminated

Boris Becker - Out
Boris Becker - Out
We arrived at the table to see a board of {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{5-Spades}{Q-Spades} and about 11,000 in the pot.

Team PokerStars Sports Star Boris Becker bet 5,025 and Italian Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano popped it to 15,000. Becker was quick to go all in for a little over 40,000 and Pagano snap-called, showing {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} for flopped quads. Becker nodded and accepted defeat, turning over his {A-Spades}{K-Spades} for a runner-runner flush that was no good.

Luca Pagano is now up to about 110,000.

"Queso Rivers the BEJEEZUS Out of Somebody"

"Queso"
"Queso"
This headline brought to you by Jim "Mr_BigQueso" Collopy himself, who would only tell us how he got 60,000 chips if we let him choose the title for his own post. Well played, Jim.

So let's have it then. First into the pot, Queso opened with a raise to 600. The big blind defended with a call, and the two went heads up the rest of the way.

The flop brought {9-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {4-Hearts}, and Collopy continued out with a bet of 800. His opponent then snuck in a check-raise to 2,275, and Collopy made the flat call.

Turn: {10-Diamonds}. The big blind fired another bet of 3,575, and Collopy made the call once more.

River: {10-Clubs}. Big blind leads out for 4,200 before seeing Queso raise all in for about 28,000 total, having the bigger of the two stacks. The big blind instantly called for the rest of his own chips, turning up {10-?} {9-?} for the book. But it was second-best. Collopy tabled {J-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} for the straight flush, dragging a big pot and sending his opponent packing.

If his story can be believed, that's the reason Collopy is up around 60,000 as he returns from the dinner break.

Swapsies!

It's time for the other half of the room to go knock themselves out on the buffet, and the players who've been in there for the past hour will be rolling and waddling back into the tournament area in 10 minutes' time.

Table Talk

We walked up too late to see the hand in question, but the table talk was still going full tilt. From what we could gather, Kevin MacPhee had open-raised, and he smooth called a three-bet behind him. His opponent out-flopped him with ten-deuce, but MacPhee managed to lose a fairly small portion of his stack considering. Cue the chatter.

Kevin MacPhee was the one doing the talking when we approached. "Well, when you smash every flop, it's easy to play every hand!"

"You had queens?" someone asked him.

"Not queens," said MacPhee with vague roll of the eyes. "Better than that."

"Why didn't you reraise him then?" the player followed up.

"Why reraise if he's squeezing with ten-deuce?! Let him keep on betting. He's not going to smash everything. Oh, wait..."

MacPhee is having a laugh at his own expense, but it appears he is actually getting a tad frustrated. He's okay on chips though, sitting with 32,000 as his half of the field prepares to head off to dinner.

Calia Climbing

We walked up to a flop of {7-Spades} {2-Spades} {2-Diamonds} with three-way action brewing. Nicolo Calia checked from the blinds, and the preflop raiser continued out with a bet of 2,700. Pierre Neuville folded out of the way, while Calia made the quick call to see another card.

Fourth street brought the {Q-Diamonds} and another check from Calia, and his opponent checked behind him this time.

That brought the river {6-Diamonds}. Calia took the lead now, firing out 4,000 chips. His opponent hemmed and hawed and eventually called, and he can kiss those chips goodbye. Calia turned up {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}, and his full house appeared to be plenty good enough to win him the pot.

Calia is up to about 59,000 as he stacks that pot.
