Day 1b, Here We Come!

We're on a mountain
We're on a mountain
Good morning (in our minds) or afternoon (in reality) and welcome back to the luxurious Alpine Palace where we are relatively close to kicking off.

Yesterday we got 270 runners and as of last night there was already the same number registered for today, with plenty more expected. The soft cap of 500 has already been thoroughly smashed, and we could see numbers reach close to 600 before the registration period is out.

Among the famous faces expected to join us today are Dario Minieri, Boris Becker, ElkY, Luca Pagano and Sandra Naujoks. Players are beginning to mill around in the lobby, but this is an EPT so we're not really expecting it to start on time. Roughly within the hour, though, we should have ourselves a fine old poker tournament on our hands. Please stand by.

Who's Here on Time?

As expected, the Day 1b turnout is impressive.

Team PokerStars Pros who have found the time to play some poker among all the skiing and apres-ski malarkey include Sandra Naujoks, Florian Langmann, Dario Minieri, JP Kelly, Ben Kang, George "Tiny" Danzer, Pieter de Korver, Anton Allemann and Lex Veldhuis.

Among the other famous folks at the felt are Rob Hollink, [Removed:197], Alexia Portal, Ramzi Jelassi, Roberto Romanello wearing a silly hat, Erich Kollmann and EPT Berlin champ Kevin MacPhee.

Players are still trickling in - most notably we were promised an ElkY, who has yet to show up - but for the moment our undisputed Table Of Death involves Luca Pagano, Boris Becker and Markus Golser. Let's see some action!

Wait! There's More

Mr. Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is here! As are the following luminaries:

Jan Heitmann
Mark Vos
Jim "Mr_BigQueso" Collopy
Jasper Wetemans
Andy Bradshaw
Paul Testud
Luca Cainelli
Andreas Krause

Heitmann Needs Your Chips, and Your Motorcycle

When PokerStars Team Pro Jan Heitmann is in a hand, he has an air of the Terminator about him. We arrived to see him in the small blind position, betting out a roughly pot-sized 1,200 on a {5-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} flop with a single, intimidatingly robotic movement of his hand. He then sat perfectly still and expressionless until his opponent had called, and they saw a a turn.

The turn was the {8-Clubs} and once again Heitmann's face didn't move, but one hand mechanically tossed in a 2,600 bet. Again, his opponent made the call.

The river was the {2-Hearts} and both players checked. Heitmann, his face suddenly relaxing, turned over {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} for a straight; his slightly disgusted opponent flipped a very premium but behind-from-the-start {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds}.

Naujoks Put to the Test

Ms. Naujoks
Ms. Naujoks
Team PokerStars German Pro Sandra Naujoks was put to a big decision during level 1.

Naujoks bet 1,200 on a board of {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} board and was raised to 3,550 by her lone opponent. She made the call, delivering the {8-Diamonds} on the turn. She fired 4,500, but her opponent wasn't going anywhere and made the call. The river brought the {7-Hearts} and Sandra checked. Her opponent bet 13,000, over half of Sandra's remaining chips.

She spent a good five minutes in the tank, perhaps afraid her opponent made a flush and elected to fold. She still has 22,000.

Hollink Not Messink

Wow, perhaps Rob Hollink has had a drop of Dutch courage or something.

With around 8,000 in the pot by the turn of the {3-Hearts} {2-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} board, Hollink pondered his options for a little while before betting out 6,300. His opponent pondered for rather less time before making the call.

The river was the {J-Clubs} and after another period of brief internal debate, Hollink went all in for his last 18,000 or so. His opponent folded, shook his head, and looked like he could probably do with a stroll in the open air. Hollink is up to 40,000 or so.
