Ramos' Roller Coaster

We walked up to a flop of {3-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {9-Hearts} to see Felipe Ramos fire out 15,000 into a pot of about that much. His lone opponent had let him make that bet before check-raising all in for 45,200 total. Ramos took a soak in the tank for several minutes as he assessed the potential damage to his stack. Finally, he double-clutched and plunked the calling chips into the pot.

Showdown
Ramos: {8-Hearts} {8-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Clubs} {9-Clubs}

The turn {6-Diamonds} made things awfully interesting as Ramos picked up eight more outs to try for the knockout. He couldn't find any of them, though, as the {6-Hearts} locked up the pot and the double for the at-risk player. Ramos would have shot himself into the top five if he could have dragged that pot, but he's still doing just fine with about 160,000 now.

Bowker the Big Bully

A young player opened to 5,100 from the button, and Kyle Bowker didn't take too kindly to that. From the small blind, "kwob20" three-bet to 12,500, and his opponent eyed up his remaining stack. After a minute, he threw out another five yellowbirds to make a total four-bet of 30,100. Undeterred, Bowker announced an all in, and started sliding his towers out across the line.

His opponent asked for a count, despite the fact that Bowker had him covered just in yellow chips. It was about 140,000 total for Bowker, nearly twice as much as his opponent had behind. After a long pause and a couple of sideways glances, the button surrendered.

Without missing a beat, Bowker showed the {2-Diamonds} as the dealer pushed him the pot.

"F***!" yelled the folder, followed by a very quiet "sorry". Bowker's bullying has bolstered his stack up to a very healthy 175,000

Liv And Let Die

Matt Affleck and Liv Boeree
Matt Affleck and Liv Boeree

Sam Trickett min-raised preflop and got 3-bet only to find Liv Boeree pushing all-in for 38,000 behind, Trickett was the only caller and in good shape with {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} against Boeree's {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}. The board came {7-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {8-Spades} {K-Clubs} and the EPT San Remo champion and new Team PokerStars Pro had to hit the rail.

Another Pelt on van den Bijgaart's Wall

Joep van den Bijgaart
Joep van den Bijgaart

Felipe Ramos opened the pot to 5,100 from late position, and the player next to him three-bet all in for 15,100. Next door to him, Joep van den Bijgaart four-bet it up to 28,200. Ramos tanked and folded, and the cards were turned up with the short stack flipping for double or nothing:

Van den Bijgaart: {A-Spades} {Q-Spades}
Opponent: {7-Spades} {7-Diamonds}

The board ran {K-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}, and that's a knockout for the Dutchman. Ramos tried to reach into the muck to show what he'd folded, but the dealer wouldn't let him turn over his cards for some reason. He swore he'd folded the two black fours, however, and van den Bijgaart has to be patting himself on the back for that isolating four-bet he stuck in preflop.

He's got a lot of chips now, something like 235,000.

Heitmann Busts In A Bizarre Pot

Paul Foltyn regaled us with the tale of Jan Heitmann's exit in a very bizarre hand.

The button had opened to 5,000 and the small blind called before Heitmann pushed all-in with {Q-Spades} {6-Spades} for about 50,000. The button then called the push with {A-} {7-} before, perhaps inexplicably, the small blind called off his entire 65,000 chip stack with {9-Hearts} {8-Hearts}.

Of course the small blind managed to scoop the entire pot and jumped to about 170,000 while Heitmann was eliminated.

Porbandarwala Poorer

Day 1a chip leader Soheb Porbandarwala had a terrible last level. We're not sure exactly where his chips went - there are now several suspiciously large stacks at his table - but whatever happened, he was down to just 40,000 or so when the chips went in against Jake Cody preflop.

Porbandarwala: {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Cody: {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

Board: {6-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}

Porbandarwala duly hit the rail. EPT Deauville and WPT London champion Cody is up to around 200,000.
