No Cheddar For Queso Today

Jim Collopy
Jim Collopy

On the last hand of the level, Jim Collopy got his 43,300 remaining chips into the pot on a three-bet shove. The gentleman two seats to his right had opened the pot to 4,100 before the shove, and he tank-called to put Collopy at risk.

"Pair!" said Collopy, slamming over his {2-Spades} {2-Hearts}, content to flip for double or nothing. His opponent showed up {A-Spades} {9-Clubs}, and the race was on.

The flop was safe for "Mr_BigQueso", coming out {Q-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {Q-Spades}, but the turn {9-Spades} left him dead to two outs. The river {3-Hearts} was close but no cigar, and that's the end of Collopy's day.

Sarwer Grapes

Jeff Sarwer
Jeff Sarwer

Jeff Sarwer was just on the wrong end of some coinflippage. Young Ben Vinson (not that there's necessarily an Old Ben Vinson but I digress) was all-in for 39,100 with {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} against Sarwer's {J-Hearts} {J-Spades} and managed to double up to 80,000 when the board {6-Spades} {4-Clubs} {A-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}.

It's Trickett To Rock A Rhyme...

Just at the end of the last level, Sam Trickett opened preflop to 3,200, David Steicke called, as did the button before the small blind reraised to 15,000. Trickett made it 26,000 and Steicke and the button both folded while the small blind quickly called.

The flop was drier than the Atacama desert, coming {K-Clubs} {7-Spades} {2-Hearts} and the small blind check-called Trickett's measly 10,500 bet. The {5-Spades} came on the turn and again the small blind checked, and Trickett bet 22,000 with just 25,000 behind despite the hugeness of the pot. This time the small blind folded and Trickett now has 137,000

Double Double for Chino?

Chino Rheem seemed to have already doubled up to 80,000 or so by the time we saw him getting it in again, this time with {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} against {j-}{j-}. He spiked on the river of the {q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{a-Spades} board, and is now very comfortable on around 160,000.

Porbandarwala Poorer

Day 1a chip leader Soheb Porbandarwala had a terrible last level. We're not sure exactly where his chips went - there are now several suspiciously large stacks at his table - but whatever happened, he was down to just 40,000 or so when the chips went in against Jake Cody preflop.

Porbandarwala: {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Cody: {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

Board: {6-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}

Porbandarwala duly hit the rail. EPT Deauville and WPT London champion Cody is up to around 200,000.

Heitmann Busts In A Bizarre Pot

Paul Foltyn regaled us with the tale of Jan Heitmann's exit in a very bizarre hand.

The button had opened to 5,000 and the small blind called before Heitmann pushed all-in with {Q-Spades} {6-Spades} for about 50,000. The button then called the push with {A-} {7-} before, perhaps inexplicably, the small blind called off his entire 65,000 chip stack with {9-Hearts} {8-Hearts}.

Of course the small blind managed to scoop the entire pot and jumped to about 170,000 while Heitmann was eliminated.

Another Pelt on van den Bijgaart's Wall

Joep van den Bijgaart
Joep van den Bijgaart

Felipe Ramos opened the pot to 5,100 from late position, and the player next to him three-bet all in for 15,100. Next door to him, Joep van den Bijgaart four-bet it up to 28,200. Ramos tanked and folded, and the cards were turned up with the short stack flipping for double or nothing:

Van den Bijgaart: {A-Spades} {Q-Spades}
Opponent: {7-Spades} {7-Diamonds}

The board ran {K-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}, and that's a knockout for the Dutchman. Ramos tried to reach into the muck to show what he'd folded, but the dealer wouldn't let him turn over his cards for some reason. He swore he'd folded the two black fours, however, and van den Bijgaart has to be patting himself on the back for that isolating four-bet he stuck in preflop.

He's got a lot of chips now, something like 235,000.

Liv And Let Die

Matt Affleck and Liv Boeree
Matt Affleck and Liv Boeree

Sam Trickett min-raised preflop and got 3-bet only to find Liv Boeree pushing all-in for 38,000 behind, Trickett was the only caller and in good shape with {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} against Boeree's {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}. The board came {7-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {8-Spades} {K-Clubs} and the EPT San Remo champion and new Team PokerStars Pro had to hit the rail.
