Varsi-ty No Match for Vamplew

It's good to be the chip leader - and David Vamplew seems to be picking up some hands, too.

Just now he knocked out another one, this time Hans Varsi who chose to get his last in with {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} while Vamplew had found {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}.

Board: {5-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}

It's hard to count Vamplew's vast pyramidal stack now, but we reckon it's somewhere in the region of 1.3 million. If he just maintains that stack, he'll be average when we go into Day 4.

Set Not Enough to Keep JP In

Kelly doesn't like it
Kelly doesn't like it

A brief raising war between JP Kelly and David Steicke resulted in Kelly all in, the cards on their backs as they waited for the cameras to arrive.

"I knew that was going to happen," said Kelly, "I knew I was going to run into aces."

Kelly: {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Steicke: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

But wait!

Flop: {8-Hearts}{j-Spades}{9-Clubs}, making Kelly a set of eights

Turn: {6-Spades} - nothing of interest there

River: {a-Spades} making Steicke a bigger set

Kelly headed for the rail, while Steicke is up to 220,000.

Negreanu Eliminated

Daniel Negreanu was crippled when he lost with queens to aces leaving him with just 45,000. His last few chips went in with {K-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} against Wayne Scott's {7-Hearts} {7-Clubs} but despite the tease of an extra couple of outs on the turn of the {5-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} the river was the {7-Spades} making Scott a boat.

On the positive side, Negreanu has finally got his first ever EPT cash.

Mattern Doesn't Stand A Chance

Chance Kornuth has brought all his lucky rabbits' feet today as well as crossing the path of a black cat on his way to the tournament floor.

He had opened preflop to 13,000 before Arnaud Mattern made it 42,500 next to him, Kornuth pushed and Mattern called instantly, the former sighing at the quickness of the call. It was easy to see why:

Kornuth: {5-Spades} {5-Clubs}
Mattern: {10-Spades} {10-Clubs}

The board came {A-Hearts} {2-Spades} {9-Hearts} but then surprisingly the table stayed deathly silent when Kornuth caught his miracle {5-Diamonds} on the turn. The {K-Hearts} came on the river and only then would Kornuth have an intake of breath.
