Bardah Doubles Back

After a few pots failed to go Ronnie Bardah's way, he was forced to grind a stack of between 20,000-30,000 for the past couple of levels. He was just able to find a double, though, and get back over 50,000 on the following hand.

From under the gun, Andrey Bondar opened with a min-raise to 3,200. Bardah was next to act and reraised all in for 23,100. One by one, everyone folded around the table until action paused on Olvedo Vincent in the small blind. He thought for a tiny bit, then called. The big blind and Bondar got out of the way and it was time for the showdown.

Bardah turned up the {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} and was in a solid position to double up against Vincent's {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. Even despite having the lead going in, Bardah knew all too well what could happen and cited, "This is exactly how I lost in the Estrellas Main Event — kings cracked by ace-queen."

This time, the board ran out in Bardah's favor as it came {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and he doubled up.

Nines Good for De Melo

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Fatima Moreira de Melo
Fatima Moreira de Melo

Germany's Julian Bober opened the hand with a raise to 3,600 from an early position and Team PokerStars Pro and a former field hockey Olympic champion Fatima Moreira de Melo called in the cutoff as well as did last year's Main Event runner-up Dragan Kostic from Spain.

The flop brought {10-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {3-Spades} and Bober bet another 6,000. De Melo made the call and Kostic folded. The two remaining players checked the {2-Hearts} on the turn and the {7-Spades} on the river and Bober opened {A-Spades} {K-Hearts} for ace high while de Melo showed {9-Spades} {9-Clubs} and collected the pot.

Immediately after the hand was done, the table was broken and all the players were reseated.

An Orbit with PokerStars Team Pro Pius Heinz

Pius Heinz on Day 1a.
Pius Heinz on Day 1a.

We saw Pius Heinz at a sandwich shop on the last break, so we thought we'd spend some time with him this level by featuring him in our latest An Orbit With...

Hand #1: Tauras Narmontas raised to 3,500 from middle position only to fold when Heinz three-bet to 9,000 from the big blind.

Hand #2: The hijack raised to 4,700 and Heinz folded from the small blind.

Hand #3: A raise and three-bet in front of him saw Heinz fold his button. Cedric Lardinois ended up being eliminated by Anders Hansen in the hand.

Hand #4: Action folded to The 2012 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final champ, Mohsin Charania, in the hijack and he moved all in for 14,200. Heinz folded from the cutoff, but Arjun Pasricha made the call from the big blind with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. Mohsin was way ahead with the {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and received a double when the board ran out {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{5-Spades}.

Hand #5: Action folded to Heinz in the hijack and he raise to 3,400, which Liya Gerasimova, who is PokerStars Team Pro Ivan Demidov's girlfriend and the winner of the ladies event here at the EPT Barcelona, called from the big blind.

Gerasimova lead out for 4,200 on the {9-Spades}{10-Hearts}{J-Hearts} flop, Heinz raise dto 10,800, Gerasimova moved all in, and Heinz quickly called off for around 50,000.

Showdown
Gerasimova: {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Heinz: {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}

The 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event winner had an over pair with an open-ended straight draw, but it was way behind the flopped nuts of Gerasimova. Neither the {9-Diamonds} turn nor {4-Clubs} river help Heinz and he was eliminated from the EPT Barcelona Main Event in Level 12.

With that, the orbit with Pius Heinz came to an abrupt end.

Danny Doubles

Daniel Negreanu from yesterday
Daniel Negreanu from yesterday

Daniel Negreanu is a chirpy chappy, if slightly apologetic, right now after he sucked out to double through Borge Dypvik.

The Norwegian raised to 3,500 and called when the Canadian Team PokerStars Pro shoved for 25,000 from the button.

Negreanu: {a-Spades}{4-Spades}
Dypvik: {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}

The board ran {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Hearts} to pair Negreanu's ace.

The Slyde Watch

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

The winner of this Main Event, and all those throughout the PokerStars.com EPT Season 9, not only receive a cash prize, trophy and prestigious title, but they also get this sleek piece of wrist-wear.

The Hood Runs Good

Marcos Fernandez keeps dominating his table as well as climbing up the chip ladder and is now in the top 10 in the tournament chip counts. We can't say for sure if this is because of his scary outfit, but most likely it's because of his poker skills.

Just recently he won another pot after calling Enver Khvitia's 3,500 bet preflop. They went heads up into the {4-Clubs} {6-Spades} {Q-Hearts} flop and both checked. Fernandez fired 4,200 on the {5-Diamonds} turn and Khvitia check-called.

Both checked again on the {3-Hearts} river and Fernandez flipped {A-Hearts} {5-Hearts} which was good enough for the win as Khvitia mucked his hand.
