A Round With Esfandiari and Friends

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

We tend to reserve the A Round With... feature for the deeper stages of these tournament. But with Sam Trickett, Antonio Esfandiari, Jonathan Aguiar, Luca Moschitta and Martin Staszko all on the same table, it seemed like a good time to put the table under the microscope.

Read what happened at the PokerStars Blog.

Tricky Trickett

Antonio Esfandiari raised to 725 and it folded all of the way around to Sam Trickett who called from the big blind. The flop was {5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and Trickett checked. Esfandiari continued out for 1,000 and Tricket slid out a check-raise to 2,600. Esfandiari called.

The {10-Diamonds} turned and Trickett led for 3,600. Esfandiari called once again and the {A-Spades} hit the river. Trickett fired 8,600.

"Oh, tricky Trickett," said Esfandiari. "I invited you into my home...I took you to the spa..." he trailed off.

Esfandiari eventually flung out a call. Trickett rolled over {K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for a turned flush and Esfandiari flung his cards to the muck. Trickett is now up to 63,000 while Esfandiari has been crippled at about 7,000.

Break It Down

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

The first wave of players are currently taking their dinner break while the other half is on a 20-minute break.

Wade Makes Trips Aces

From the hijack seat, Tristan Wade raised to 450. The small blind, Richard Loth, made the call, then Paul van 't Veer called from the big blind.

The flop was {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{10-Spades}, and all three players checked to see the {8-Diamonds} land on the turn. There action checked to Wade, and he bet 800. Loth called, and van 't Veer folded.

The river completed the board with the {A-Spades}, and Loth checked. Wade fired 1,700, and Loth called.

Wade turned up the {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades} for trip aces, and Loth mucked his hand.

Veldhuis Out; Giarrusso Extends Lead

Lex Veldhuis - Gone
Lex Veldhuis - Gone

Stefano Giarrusso opened to 500 from under the gun and Timothy Adams called. It folded around to Lex Veldhuis on the button and he three-bet to an unknown aomunt. Giarrusso wasted no time four-betting to 5,000 and Adams got out of the way.

Veldhuis then five-bet all in for roughly 45,000 and Giarrusso snapped him off with {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}. Veldhuis showed {A-Spades}{3-Spades} and needed some help.

"I've got a good feeling about this one," said Veldhuis.

The deck, however, did not agree to act upon Veldhuis's feeling as the {J-Clubs} was the door card. The flop finished with the {6-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. The turn was the {9-Hearts} and Veldhuis stood up and said "Good game." The {A-Diamonds} finished the board and he was sent packing.

Pagano's Five Kicker Does the Trick

Luca Pagano
Luca Pagano

Lukas Staehelin limped from early position only to have Luca Pagano raise to 800 from the button. Szabolcs Mayer then came in with a three-bet to 2,200 from the big blind, Staehelin folded, and Pagano made the call. The {4-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop saw Pagano call a bet of 2,200 from Mayer, and the both players checked the {9-Spades} turn as well as the {Q-Spades} river.

Mayer tabled {A-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for a pair off aces, but it'd be no good as Pagano's {A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} won with a better kicker.
