Ol' Buddy Ol' Pal

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Pal Koppegodt is now sporting one of the largest stacks in the room.

We arrived at the table toward the end of the action to see Marvin Rettenmaier and Koppegodt looking down at a completed board of {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{a-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}.

There was already well over 35,000 already spread out in the middle of the table. Koppegodt checked on over to Rettenmaier and he announced all in for 36,900. Koppegodt slowly counted out enough chips to call and dropped them in the middle.

Rettenmaier shrugged.

"You've got it," Rettenmaier sighed.

Koppegodt showed {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} for trip aces and he indeed did have it. Rettenmaier mucked his cards and Koppegodt scooped up a giant pot and puts him at 244,000 in chips. Rettenmaier, on the other hand, made a quick exit from the tournament area.

Charania Busto

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On a {3-Spades}{5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} board two players checked after which Mohsin Charania moved all in for 29,000. The first player folded but the second wasn't so sure just yet. He hesitated for a bit before making the call to put the defending EPT Grand final champion at risk.

Charania turned over {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for a flush draw and two overcards against his opponent's {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. The river brought a mere blank and Charania was eliminated.

The Downs and Downs of Michael Mizrachi

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Michael Mizrachi (Day 1b)
Michael Mizrachi (Day 1b)

Michael Mizrachi and Khiem Nguyen were heads up in a three-bet pot with the board reading {3-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{k-Clubs}. Nguyen led out for 17,000, and Mizrachi called.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds}, both players checked, and the river was the {a-Clubs}. Nguyen led out for 33,500, and Mizrachi folded.

The very next hand, a player limped in, another raised to 6,000, and Mizrachi made the call. Alexey Zakharov moved all in for 29,600 near the button, and the action folded back to Mizrachi.

The three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner wanted the dealer to pull in the bets, but she didn't understand what he was asking. Instead, she cut down Zakharov's stacks a second time, and repeated the amount of the bet.

"I'll gamble," Mizrachi then said, splashing forward enough chips to make the call. "I hope you have ace-king."

Sure enough, Zakharov rolled over {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. Mizrachi showed {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}.

The {q-Clubs} jumped out of the window of the flop, but two clubs (the {3-Clubs} and the {4-Clubs}) followed it, giving Zakharov a flush draw. According to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Zakharov was in the lead at this point by the smallest of margins, having 52.42% equity.

The turn was black, but the {5-Spades} was a brick for the Russian. Mizrachi was one card away from having his gamble pay off.

The river was the remaining black five in the deck, and the {5-Clubs} gave Zakharov his flush. He more than doubled to 73,000 chips, while Mizrachi is down to 165,000.

News In Brief

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Natalie Hof and Irina Batorevich
Natalie Hof and Irina Batorevich
  • George Clyde-Smith won a small button versus big blind battle against Philippe Ktorza. He defended his big blind and check-called a c-bet. The turn and river were checked down and the final board read {10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}. The Frenchman opened {a-Clubs}{9-Spades} but lost out to Clyde-Smith's {10-Spades}{9-Hearts}.
  • Dominik Nitsche's stack has grown to more than 200,000 and he seems to be open-raising a lot. John Eames defended his big blind to such a raise but quickly check-folded on a {7-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop.
  • Natalie Hof took on and defeated fellow female and neighbour Irina Batorevich. Around 22,000 had made it into the middle by the time the board rested as {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{j-Spades}. Hof bet 5,600 from the button and her opponent called and mucked upon seeing her {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

Demidov Soars

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Ivan Demidov (Day 1b)
Ivan Demidov (Day 1b)

The completed board read {9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and there was already well over 55,000 already in the pot.

Ivan Demidov led out for 24,000 and Igor Yaroshevskyy went into the tank. Moments passed before Yaroshevskyy finally smacked enough chips to call down on the felt.

Demidov rolled over {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and Yaroshevskyy nodded his head to signify that the pocket queens were good. Yaroshevskyy flashed {J-Hearts}{j-Spades} before throwing his cards to the muck. Demidov dragged in the massive pot and is now sitting around 185,000 in chips.

Raskin Loses Newfound Chips

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Stefano Rossomando opened to 2,100 in early position, Micah Raskin three-bet to 6,000 out of the blinds, and Rossomando called.

The flop fell {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}, Raskin continued for a bet, and Rossomando moved all in for 20,900 more. Raskin tanked for 30 seconds or so, then made the call.

Rossomando: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Raskin: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Rossomando flopped a flush with a redraw to two straight flushes, but Raskin could still knock him out if the board paired. The turn and river bricked {k-Diamonds}, {2-Clubs} respectively, and Rossomando doubled to around 75,000 chips.

Raskin is left with around 37,000.

Pius Heinz in action on Day 1b

A while ago Pius Heinz was knocked out and we just got our hands on the details. Heinz raised to 2,200 and one player called after which Vadzim Markushevski three-bet to 5,600. Heinz moved all in for 22,000 when the action got back to him and the caller folded. Markushevski made the call.

Heinze zhowed {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and Markushevski's queens held up.
