Metaal Can Only Smile

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante

Govert Metaal lost a sizable pot to Ghassan El Hoss after the latter called for and hit a fairly hidden straight.

Ondrej Vinklarek opened to 500 and was called by El Hoss before Metaal three-bet to 1,800 off the button. Both players called to the {4-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{k-Spades} flop where Metaal continued for 2,700.

Only El Hoss check-called before both players checked the {3-Clubs} turn. On the {j-Clubs} river El Hoss led for 6,000 and Metaal made a quick call.

El Hoss opened {5-Spades}{7-Spades} for that straight and Metaal opened {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

Paez Doubles Through MacPhee

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante
Kevin MacPhee
Kevin MacPhee

Raul Paez has got off to an absolute flyer here in the High Roller and is now armed with close to 78,000 chips.

Joining the action during the preflop betting round, we found Pae sat in late position with 2,825 chips invested in the pot and MacPhee, to his immediate left, having raised (a five-bet we believe) to 7,725. Paez was deep in the tank, riffling a small pile of green and white chips before announcing, "All-in."

MacPhee instantly called and the cards were revealed.

MacPhee: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Paez: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

Red queens were unkind to a number of players in the Main Event and their poor run of form continued over to the High Roller. The {A-Spades} was the door card and it was followed into view by the {4-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs} and the {10-Spades}, boosting Paez to 77,750 chips and leaving MacPhee with a manageable 39000.

Refos Responds

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante

Raoul Refos is back up to 40,000 after finding himself out of position in another hand, this time winning though.

On the turn of a {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades} board he checked to face a 3,700 bet from Artem Metalidi. He called and checked to the Ukrainian who checked behind.

Refos didn't wait for his opponent to opened as he was keen to show his {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs} for trip queens. Metalidi mucked.

O'Dwyer Four-bet Does the Trick

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

In our earlier posts we mentioned that the play was cagey and that nobody seemed to be getting out of line. Scrap that. The kid gloves are off now and the players are at each other's throats!

Mikhail Korotkikh opened from under the gun and next to act, to his direct left, was Marko Neumann. A quick peak at his cards was all Neumann needed before he three-bet to 1,700. The action then folded all the way to Steve O'Dwyer on the button and he four-bet to 5,125. Korotkikh folded and Neumann followed suit.

Top Pair Good for Allain

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

Adrian Allain is probably the best player you have never heard of, with him having won a World Poker Tour title and an Asian Poker Tour title too. You may recall he was the player who made Phil Hellmuth's life hell in the €2,500 No Limit Hold'em Six Max event at the 2011 WSOPE in Cannes, now he is planning on doing that to his opponents here in Deauville.

Joining the action on a {k-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} board, Steve O'Dwyer lead for 1,450 from the big blind seat and the action was on Allain in the cutoff. He raised to 3,525, which forced Tobias Peters out of the pot but O'Dwyer decided to call.

The {A-Spades} looked like a bad card for both players as O'Dwyer checked and Allain checked behind.

Allain: {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}
O'Dwyer: *mucked*

Haigh Maker

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

Robert Haigh's stack was on the slide but he just forced Raoul Refos off a hand to transfer those problem over to the Dutchman.

Refos opened to 500 from under the gun and was only called by the German (button) en route to a {7-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Spades} flop. Refos continued for 800 and was called before he fired for 1,500 on the {k-Diamonds} turn. Haigh treated this to a raise to 4,000. Call.

On the {7-Diamonds} river Refos checked to face a 10,500 bet. He tanked for three minutes and elected to fold.

Terry Feeling Flush

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

Joining the action on a {Q-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop, Vladimir Troyanovski was in the hijack and he set the price to play at 2,800. Todd Terry was on the button and he tossed in the required number of chips to call.

The {8-Clubs} fell on the river and Troyanovski lead out again. This time his bet was for a more substantial 4,700. Terry confirmed the bet size before throwing a single grey 5,000 chip into the middle of the felt.

Troyanovski turned over {K-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for two pair, but he was well beaten by the {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} of Terry that had made a flush on the turn.

Kings Good for Sacrispeyre

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante
Kevin Vandersmissen
Kevin Vandersmissen

Patrick Sacrispeyre has just helped himself to a large pot thanks to finding a pair of kings early on.

Sacrispeyre opened the betting with a raise to 550 on the button and both bllinds, Todd Terry (small blind) and Kevin Vandersmissen (big blind) called. The trio saw the dealer spread out the {8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and the action was checked around to Sacrispeyre, who then made a continuation bet of 1,050. Terry folded but Vandersmissen called.

Vandersmissen then lead for 1,650 when the {9-Clubs} landed on the turn and Sacrispeyre wasted no time at all in matching his opponent's bet. The {8-Spades} completed the board and Vandermissen fired another barrel, this time one worth 3,200. Again, Sacrispeyre quickly called.

Vandersmissen: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Sacrispeyre: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

Sacrispeyre's kings were good and he climbed up to 57,000 chips.

Romanello Runs into Quads

Level 1 : 100/200, 25 ante

It's a good job for Roberto Romanello that they start with deep stacks as he just ran a full house (only likely hand) into the quads of Vladimir Troyanovski.

Troyanovski, who recently finished second to Vanessa Selbst in the $25k high roller at the PCA, opened to 600 from second position and was called in two spot.

All three checked the flop before Romanello led for 700 from the big blind with the board reading {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{j-Diamonds}. Both players called to the {k-Diamonds} river where Romanello fired for 1,700. Troyanovski was the only opponent still interested, so interested in fact that he raised to 6,200. Romanello flicked in the call but mucked upon seeing Troyanovski's {6-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for quads.
