Romanello the Raconteur

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Roberto Romanello
Roberto Romanello

Todd Terry chipped up nicely before the dinner break to push up over the 100k mark. Soon after players returned Terry was raising to 2,000 from the button, then watched Pawel Brzeski reraise to 5,400 from the small blind and Roberto Romanello push all in from the big blind for 25,400.

That's when Terry decided to step aside. Nonetheless, the hand remained interesting for him… and for everyone else nearby.

"What do you put me on?" began Romanello when Brzeski didn't fold immediately. "I have a big hand," he continued. "I'm happy to take the pot."

Brzeski continued to consider the situation as the rest of the table began chuckling at Romanello's banter, offering to share that he, too, "was strong."

"I'll show you a big hand if you fold," Romanello said. Then… "maybe."

The table burst out in laughter. Finally Romanello said he was calling the clock. "But it's a friendly clock," he insisted. "Give him an extra ten seconds!"

But Brzeski called before the floor could begin the countdown, turning over {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}. Romanello then delivered on his earlier promise to show a big hand, showing {A-Spades}{K-Spades}. "I had ace-jack," Todd offered as they awaited the arrival of the community cards.

The board ran out {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{7-Spades}, and Romanello earned the double up.

"Don't get into a talking war with me!" Romanello said with a grin as he stacked his new chips.

Heinzelmann Planning Late Arrival

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

During the dinner break, we've been speaking to double EPT runner-up and 'temporarily retired' poker player Max Heinzelmann. The German is currently railing one of his friends on the final table of one of the many side events but fully intends to take advantage of the late registration for the high roller event, even if it means he'll only start with 50 big blinds.

Kitai Calls, Collects

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Ghassan El Hoss raised to 2,000 from the button and got a single caller in Davidi Kitai playing from the big blind.

The flop came {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. Kitai checked, El Hoss bet 5,000, and Kitai called. The pair followed the same sequence after the {3-Spades} turn, with Kitai check-calling another 5,000 bet from El Hoss.

Both checked the {6-Spades} river, and Kitai showed {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. El Hoss shrugged as he showed his {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, and Kitai grabbed the pot.

Reilly Locks Horns With Nitsche

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

Timothy Reilly is back past the 50,000 chip mark after coming off best in a clash with Dominik Nitsche.

On a {3-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} flop, Reilly checked in the small blind, Govert Metaal checked from the big blind and Nitsche bet two green 1,000 chips. Only Reilly called and the dealer put out the {K-Clubs} turn.

Reilly check-called again, this time a bet of 4,200 from Nitsche — a World Series of Poker bracelet winner. The {5-Clubs} saw no betting action as Reilly checked and Nitsche checked behind.

Saout Shoves on Kitai

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

Antoine Saout has just five-bet all in to help himself to a decent pot just moments ago.

Steve O'Dwyer opened to 1,500 on the button, Saout three-bet to 4,300 from the small blind and Davidi Kitai glanced at Saout before clicking it back and making it 9,000 to play from the big blind. O'Dwyer got out of the way but Saout give his decision a little more thought. Eventually, Saout decided on a five-bet all-in and it was the correct one to make because Kitai instantly folded.

Pollak Represents Flush

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

Benjamin Pollak has clawed back the early chips he had lost and is back above his original starting stack.

The {8-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts} board saw Pollak check from his seat in the small blind and Artem Metalidi test the waters with an 8,700 bet. There were already close to 25,000 chips in the middle at this point. Pollk called and the dealer put the {3-Spades} into play.

Pollak remained stoic, only moving to announce he was all-in, a bet that was 14,900 to call. Metalidi looked like man who had been told his dog had died and he fidgeted in his seat while he made his decision. Almost foour minutes passed before he did just that, passed.

"King-jack of spades?" asked Metalidi but Pollak refused to comment.
