Day 2 Started

Welcome back to the EPT Deauville High Roller, Day 2

JC Alvarado will hope to be toasting another successful day
JC Alvarado will hope to be toasting another successful day

After a long day's play yesterday 51 players return for Day 2 of the PokerStars.fr EPT Deauville High Roller Event hoping for another long day. Registration is still open for the first level of today so we may see some new faces try their luck; we may also see some of the returning short stacks bust and use their second bullet if they haven't already done so.

Vladimir Troyanovski flopped quads early on against Roberto Romanello and hardly looked back as he ended the day as chip leader on 266,000. Close behind are the familiar faces of Kevin Vandermissen and JC Alvarado.

Since registration is still open until play starts we have no news on the prize pool but we'll post that as soon as we have. Cards will be in the air at 12pm CET.

Cards in the Air; Two New Entries

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

The cards are in the air for day two. French gaming law requires that all players should be on an equal footing in the tournament, and since this is a one re-buy event, the players who bought in today have to have at least one opportunity to re-buy.

Jonathan Duhamel and Christian Rudolph are the only new players and they need that chance. The problem has been solved by allowing players to re-buy if they bust on the first hand of the day and the first hand only.

Nemeth Doubles Through Katchalov

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Andras Nemeth has soared past the 100,000 chip barrier after doubling through Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov.

On a {2-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop, Katchalov lead for 3,000 from the small blind and Nemeth raised to 8,000 from the big blind. Katchalov composed himself before moving a stack of 5,000 chips forward — enough to put Nemeth all in. Nemeth quickly called.

Nemeth: {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Katchalov: {J-Spades}{8-Hearts}

Nemeth was nicely in front and that is where he stayed as the turn and river fell {a-Clubs} and {k-Spades} respectively, boosting Nemeth to 103,000 and reducing Katchalov's stack to 45,000.

A Nice Turn of Events for Jacobson

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Martin Jacobson got what he was probably wishing for over breakfast this morning - an early double up.

Vladimir Troyanovski was his opponent in the hand and he three-bet all in from the big blind after the Swede had opened from early position. Jacobson called off pretty quickly.

Troyanovski: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Jacobson: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

The board ran {7-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{8-Spades} to pair Jacobson's ace.

Big Slick Good For Reilly

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Timothy Reilly has just added a few extra chips to his stack following a minor clash with Ekrem Sanioglu.

Sanioglu checked from the small blind on the very wet {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}{10-Clubs} flop, putting the action on Reilly in the cutoff. Reilly bet 4,500 and Sanioglu beat him into the pot with a call. The {Q-Hearts} was greeted by a check from Sanioglu and this time Reilly opted to check behind. The {5-Diamonds} prompted another check from Sanioglu but Reilly went back to betting. Reilly made it 8,000 to play and Sanigolu called.

Reilly: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Sanioglu: *mucked*

Anton Wigg on day 1
Anton Wigg on day 1

Laurent Polito and Pawel Brzesk were the first two players to bust today. Anton Wigg put himself at risk against Jean Noel Thorel but managed to get a shove through.

The two players were heads up to a {8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Wigg bet 8,600 on the button when Thorel checked from under the gun. The fearless French businessman put in a check-raise to 20,000 and Wigg called after some thought.

Thorel checked over the {10-Spades} turn to Wigg who moved all in for his last 39800. Thorel admitted defeat and folded.

Koon and Rettenmaier Collide

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Jason Koon opened the betting with a raise to 4,500 from UTG+1. The players folded in turn to Marvin Rettenmaier in the hijack seat and he three-bet to 10,600. Davidi Kitai looked like he was pondering to at least call but he couldn’t quite pull the trigger and he folded. Koon called and the dealer put out the {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}.

Koon checked the flop, Rettenmaier continued with an 11,200 bet and Koon called. The {3-Diamonds} was the turn card and Koon checked. Ben Warrington then mentioned to the dealer that Koon had put too many chips into the pot when he called, Warrington was correct and the dealer rectified the situation. Once the confusion was over, Rettenmaier checked behind.

The river was the {J-Hearts} and Koon checked again, Rettenmaier checked behind.

Rettenmaier: {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Koon: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}

Koon climbs to 95,000.

Adams Adds to Stack

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Timothy Adams opened to 4,000 from late position and received two callers. The first was JC Alvarado in the hijack seat and the second was Andras Nemeth in the big blind.

The trio shared {7-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop, Nemeth checked, Adams tested the waters with a 7,000 continuation bet and only Alvarado called. The turn brought the {9-Diamonds} into play and when Adams checked, Alvarado checked behind shortly after.

Adams then led out for 22,000 on the arrival of the {5-Diamonds} river. Alvarado stared at Adams intently for close to a minute before releasing his hand into the muck.
