Welcome to Day 4 of PokerStars.fr EPT Deauville

Shahaf Hadaya
Shahaf Hadaya

Just 51 players are coming back today for this, the fourth day of EPT Deauville here on the Normandy coast. Shahaf Hadaya, known as "Da Boar" online is the current chip leader with 1,237,000 ahead of PokerStars qualifier Matthieu Herve, the only other player over 1 million in chips.

Behind them sit Sam Grafton (985,000) and James Mitchell (983,000), two of several British players still left in this event.

We're expecting a shorter day today with the tournament expected to play down to it's final three tables (24 players) although it's possible that might be revised down to the final two tables instead.

Play begins in about half an hour.

Romeo Finds a Queen

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Alexander Dovzhenko of Russia raised the minimum to 20,000 from under the gun, then it folded around to Robert Romeo of Belgium who reraised all in for 103,000 from the small blind. Remi Castaignon, sitting in between the two, folded his hand, and after a short bit of thinking Dovzhenko called the reraise.

Dovzhenko had {5-Spades}{5-Clubs} and Romeo {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}, and after the {3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{A-Hearts} flop and {10-Clubs} turn it appeared Romeo would be our first elimination of Day 4. But the river brought the {Q-Hearts} to pair the Belgian and give him the early double.

A Milly for Mitchell After Pushing Out Pishvafar

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
James Mitchell
James Mitchell

Over on the feature table, James Mitchell has just eliminated David Pishvafar, thereby pushing his stack up over 1 million in the process.

All in for his last 110,000 or so with {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} against Mitchell's {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}, Pishvafar saw the board come {5-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} to make an early exit.

Mass Effect

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Massimo Di Cicco
Massimo Di Cicco

Ionel Anton had moved all in over the top of Massimo Di Cicco's initial raise and the Italian felt priced in to call.

Anton: {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Di Cicco: {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Both players flopped a gutshot on the {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop but Di Cicco picked up a pair on the {9-Spades} turn. Anton couldn't hit his straight draw or ace on the {4-Spades} river and was promptly eliminated.

Ghassan's Loss is Noel Gaens

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

A blind on blind battle saw Ibrahim Ghassan all in preflop against Noel Gaens.

Gaens: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Ghassan: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}

The flop looked fairly unambitious coming {J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades} but the {8-Diamonds} on the turn was a good card for Gaens as Ghassan said, "No ten."

Sadly for him, those fickle poker gods weren't listening and the {10-Spades} came on the river to make Gaens a straight.

"Wow," said Gaens, "that was very lucky. I am sorry."

"It's not a problem," sighed Ghassan as they shook hands and the latter left the table.

River Good for Gordon, Bad for Butzhammer

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Gordon Huntly just opened for 20,000 from under the gun, and when it folded around to Thomas Butzhammer in the big blind he repopped it to 67,000. Huntly sat quietly for about a half-minute, then declared himself all in and Butzhammer instantly called to create a pot of nearly 800,000.

Huntly grimly grinned at the speed of Butzhammer's call, nodding in acknowledgement of his opponent having woken up with {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. Huntly tabled his {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and folded his arms to watch the community cards come.

The flop was {3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades} and turn {J-Diamonds}, and Butzhammer's hand remained best. But the {Q-Hearts} arrived on the river to disturb the serenity of the scene, giving Huntly one of his three needed outs to survive.

Huntly remained stoic, but Butzhammer stood up at the sight of the card, walking away from the table in disgust. He returned to find Huntly almost apologetic at the turn of events, and the pair slapped hands in recognition of fate's preeminence.

Now, however, Butzhammer must overcome emotions as well as having a short stack in order to continue his EPT Deauville Main Event run.

Koon and Hadaya go to War

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Massimo Di Cicco opened to 26,000 preflop before Jason Koon made it 59,000 from a couple of seats down. Shahaf Hadaya was in the big blind and cold four bet to 144,000.

Di Cicco tanked for several minutes but then folded, Koon thought and then moved all in and Hadaya snap-called.

Koon: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Hadaya: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}

Koon was freerolling after the flop but the board came {10-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs}{A-Clubs} for a chop.
