Jean-Noel Thorel Exits Short of the Money

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Jean-Noel Thorel
Jean-Noel Thorel

Jean-Noel Thorel raised to 9,000 preflop and Antoine Saout made it 26,000. Thorel called and the two players saw a {3-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{j-Spades} flop. On the flop, Thorel decided to move all-in for his remaining 80,000 chips and Saout snap-called. Thorel showed {q-Spades}{k-Spades} for an open-ended straight draw, but Saout had out-flopped him holding {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for a set.

There was no help for Thorel as the turn and river came {2-Clubs}{q-Clubs} and Thorel exited just a handful of places away from the money bubble.

Aldemir Short

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

In a battle of the blinds, Koray Aldemir and Brian Ganon got into a raising war with the Argentinian at risk, holding {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. Aldemir only had {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and the better kicker held up. Only a few spots away from the money, Aldemir has dropped to a mere 12 big blinds along with a few other players in the room.

Mateos On the Rise

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Under the gun, Or Hadad raised to 8,500. His neighbor Thomas Lentrodt made the call, Adrian Mateos in the cutoff called, and big blind Mikhail Petrov added 4,500 to see a flop.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and action checked to Mateos. The Spanish pro made a bet of 20,000 and just Petrov called. The {8-Diamonds} on the turn was checked by both before the {A-Diamonds} completed the board.

Petrov bet out 37,500 and, though he wasn't overly excited about it, Mateos called. Petrov tapped the table and showed his {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for the missed straight draw. Mateos tabled {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for the same missed straight draw, but the rivered top pair of aces.

Kruk Wins Monster Pot; Zinno Busts Reinert

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Jussi Nevanlinna
Jussi Nevanlinna

The seat of Jussi Nevanlinna was occupied by Brian Reinert, but not for long. From what transpired it was Christopher Kruk who won a massive flip to bust the 2015 Master Classics of Poker champion. Przemyslaw Piotrowski opened to 9,000 and Nevanlinna then three-bet to 23,000 before Kruk four-bet jammed for 316,000.

Nevanlinna snap-called for 20,000 less with pocket queens and Kruk's ace-king won the huge flip.

Then, Brian Reinert got his stack of around 75,000 in preflop with the {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and was flipping as well. Anthony Zinno looked him up with {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and scored the knock out on a board of {J-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{K-Hearts} to see Reinert leave his chair in disgust.

Wigg Doubles; Sidhu Pushes

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

With the board reading {J-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and more than 120,000 in the pot, Kuljinder Sidhu moved all in to put Vebjorn Monstad at risk for the size of the pot. The Norwegian folded and Sidhu increased his stack.

One table over, the cards of Kees van Brugge were already in the muck and a stack of 113,500 was sent over to Anton Wigg. The Swede had doubled up with the {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} on a board of {K-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{10-Spades} and van Brugge said he had {K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} in said hand. "How do you have it there?" the Dutchman grinned after paying off his opponent.

Good Starts for La Boissonnire and Williams

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

On a flop of {q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} Frank Williams bet out 9,000 and was called by La Boissonnire. The {2-Hearts} looked inconsequential, but Williams barrelled for a further 26,000. La Boissonnire again called. The river was the {8-Clubs} and Williams fired a third time, for 29,000 which finally got his opponent to fold.

Both players however are well up on the number of chips they started the day with as players approach the money bubble here on day 3

O'Dwyer Feels The Ire

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Vebjorn Monstad limped the button and after the small blind folded, Steve O'Dwyer shoved the big blind for 55,000.

Monstad got a count and made the call with the {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}, ahead of O'Dwyer's {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

The board ran out {j-Spades}{9-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and O'Dwyer hit the rail, because trip tens with an ace-kicker beats king high, even if you're the EPT's all-time leading money winner.

Abernethy Gets Lucky

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

From middle position, Florian Decamps raised to 8,500 only to be three-bet to 20,500 by Mazin Khoury on the button. The small blind folded but Andrew Abernethy in the big blind shoved all in for 64,000. Decamps folded, Khoury instantly called.

Mazin Khoury: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}
Andrew Abernethy: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The board ran out {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and with the king on the turn, Abernethy doubled up.

Abernethy, talking to his neighbor Kees van Brugge, said he was usually so unlucky. As far as we can tell, he has nothing to complain about right now. Khoury on the other hand, has reason to, as he's down to just around 60,000.

Not much later, Decamps busted. From the cutoff, he pushed his last 14 big blinds in holding {A-}{6-}, and was called by the button that had {A-}{10-}. Decamps didn't hit, and made his exit.

Kisacikoglu Busts Mignot

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

James Akenhead opened to 9,000 and short stack Chris Moorman folded from one seat over, then Orpen Kisacikoglu three-bet to 21,500.

Edouard Mignot then shoved for the second time in the past 10 minutes and this time the Frenchman was looked up as Kisacikoglu tank-called with the {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. Mignot was in the lead with his {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}, but the board came {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{J-Clubs}{7-Spades} to give Kisacikoglu a full house.

Sidhu Wins a Flip

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Timothy Adams opened to 9,500 and Kuljinder Sidhu then jammed for 116,500 with Adams going into the think tank for quite some time. The Canadian eventually called with the {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and Sidhu was flipping with {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and Sidhu won the flip whereas David Lappin busted at almost the same time on the feature table.
