GUKPT Luton Main Event

Day 2 Completed

Tom Hall Leads the GUKPT Luton Main Event with 13 Players Remaining

10 hours of poker action saw a field of 95 players whittled down to just 13 during Day 2 of the GUKPT Luton Main Event.

Tom Hall, a former GUKPT Main Event runner-up, leads the way with 1,273,000, ahead of Trevor Reardon (1,171,000) and Timothy Chung (809,000).

Hall saw his stack propel to the top of the counts in one of the final hands of the day as his pocket kings were able to defeat the pocket aces of Mitchell Hyman after they had got all their chips into the middle preflop.

Charles Akadiri, Matthew Davenport, Alexandru Papazian and Tamer Kamel are among the players also returning, as is the start-of-day chipleader, Aaron Khera.

Recap of the Day's Action

Early departures included defending champion David Docherty, Mitchell Johnson, Alexios Zervos, Alex Goulder, Ryan Mandara, Lee French, recent GUKPT Coventry champion Joe Hindry and Team Grosvenor’s Richard Trigg.

James Rann, who finished as runner-up in the GUKPT Luton High Roller earlier this week, saw his Main Event run end against Alexandre Gomes after Rann hit a set on the flop, only for Gomes to river a straight.

With 34 places paid, the bubble lasted around 45 minutes until three-time GUKPT Main Event champion Benjamin Winsor was the unfortunate final player to miss out on a cash prize. Winsor three-bet all in from the small blind for around 20 big blinds with ace-king and was called by an opponent holding pocket jacks.

There was no joy on the board for Winsor, who, despite being the GUKPT Main Event all-time money list leader, was unable to find a spot in the money this weekend in Luton.

The remaining players will return Sunday at noon to continue their quest for the £100,850 top prize. Stay tuned to PokerNews for live updates of all the action.

Mitchell Hynam Eliminated in 14th Place (£4,000)

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Mitchell Hynam
Mitchell Hynam

Once again the call of an all in situation came from the feature table.

Tom Hall, playing from the button, and Mitchell Hynam from middle position had got all their chips into the middle, with Hynam the player at risk for 580,000.

Tom Hall:{k-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Mitchell Hynam: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

Board: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

What seemed to be a dream situation for Hynam turned into a nightmare as he saw Hall hit a set on the flop. The final board only improved Hall's holding to a full house, and former Day 2 chipleader Hynam departed in 14th place.

Ronald Musson Eliminated in 15th Place (£3,700)

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Alexandru Papazian raised to 20,000 from under the gun, Trevor Reardon 3-bet to 65,000 from the cutoff, and Ronald Musson moved all in for 215,000 from the small blind. Papazian folded, and Reardon called.

Ronald Musson:{a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Trevor Reardon:{j-Clubs}{j-Spades}

Board: {10-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

There was to be no miracle board for Musson and he departed in 15th place.

Martyn Frey Eliminated in 16th Place (£3,650)

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Martyn Frey was all in for 246,000 and received a call from Mitchell Hynam after he had pondered his decision.

Frey: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Hynam: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Board: {10-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

Frey was in decent shape to double up as he had Hynam dominated, but the latter hit a queen on the flop and held to score the elimination.

Ciaran McCullagh Eliminated in 17th Place (£3,300)

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Charles Akadiri, playing from the hijack, and Ciaran McCullagh, from the small blind, got all their chips into the middle preflop for a pot worth over 700,000.

Akadiri: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
McCullagh: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Board: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

Akadiri stood up from his seat when he saw he faced pocket kings but hit one of his three immediate outs on the flop to take the lead. McCullagh could not find a way back on the turn and river and departed in 17th place.

Full House For Shina

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Rajinder Shina was all in on the {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop on the feature table and was called. Shina held {7-Diamonds}{7-} for trips and was up against {a-}{k-}. The {8-Clubs} turn and {a-Diamonds} river improved his holding to a full house for the double up.

Cautious Play

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

The action is in the final level of Day 2, and the play has become cautious as the players all eye a spot in the final day tomorrow.
