Players Splash with Big Denominations Early

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 0 ante

While most of the tables battle for pots worth a few hundred chips at this stage, two players were creating a five-figure pot early in the first level.

On a completed board of {j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{j-Clubs} Omar Hernandez had bet 5,000 in a pot already worth 6,000 chips. Maxim Fana was on the button and raised the bet to 15,000, half a starting stack.

Hernandez faced a big decision early on, but let his hand go, putting his opponent on a full house or better.

Frederick Wins Pot Early

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 0 ante

Action kicked off in the €1,150 Main Event with a multiway pot. Stefan O'Donoghue min raised and picked up calls from Shane Merrigan on the button, Arnie Mindthoff in the small blind and Joseph Frederick in the big blind.

The flop came {4-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and all three players checked. The turn came the {7-Clubs} and Mindthoff bet 300. Frederick called, as did O'Donoghue. The river was the {3-Clubs} and all three players checked to showdown.

Mindthoff showed {7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and Frederick showed {10-Clubs}{7-Hearts} for a pair of sevens with the better kicker.

Irish Open Tournament Room

Welcome to Day 1c of the Irish Open €1,150 Main Event, running at the Royal Society Dublin. This is the third of four starting flights, with the winner set to be crowned on April 10th.

Across the first two flights, 968 entrants have contributed to a prize pool of €1,084,200 and 352 players have already made it through to Day 2. The guarantee has already been smashed and the numbers are still increasing.

So far, David Docherty has bagged the most chips with 405,300, followed by Arto Mansner who has 302,600 chips. Of course, new chip leaders could still emerge as the remaining flights take shape.

Dublin resident Steve O'Dwyer is the reigning Main Event champion, topping a field of 2,040 entrants last year to lock up a score of €318,900. He was knocked out on Day 1b and will need to reenter if he’s to have a shot at retaining his title.

Day 1c commences at noon local time. Players will have starting stacks of 30,000 chips, and blinds will begin at 100/100. Blind levels run for 60 minutes with a 20-minute break every two levels and a dinner break at the end of Level 6.
