Under the gun, PokerStars online qualifier Mike Brunner moved all in for his final 20,400 chips. Action passed all the way around to the small blind where Team PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez quietly announced a call. When the big blind eventually folded, the cards were on their backsides:
Brunner:
Fernandez:
"Come on, don't let me lose two of these in a row," pleaded Brunner. We're not sure what he's talking about, but we did see him run pocket queens into pocket kings early in the day.
In any event, let's run a board to see who runs good in this flip: . It's Brunner's turn to win one, and he clapped his hands together in a celebration of relief.
We mentioned earlier in the day that the plan was to play down to 24 players. We've received clarification from the staff that we'll play down to 24 or eight full levels, whichever comes first.
After dropping 48 players in the first two levels, the smart money is on reaching the 24-player mark.
Juan Aranguren and Roman Suarez mixed it up in a pretty big pot just moments ago. We caught up on the flop with the board showing . Aranguren got himself all in, and Suarez quickly made the call with the coverings stack.
When the call came, Aranguren refused to show his cards. After another minute of prodding from the dealer, he slung them into the muck. The dealer retrieved them and flipped up his , meaning Aranguren was still drawing live, albeit to runner-runner.
The turn ended the drama, and the sent Aranguren out the door. But not before he got his final few words in. We couldn't understand the bulk of the conversation, but we could hear Aranguren saying, "Quatro?? Quatros?!?" before he finally gave up and made his way to the exit.
Martin Sansour and Rodrigo Lasmar got it all in before the flop, each player having about 40,000 in front of them. Sansour turned up , flipping against Lasmar's .
The board found Sansour's overcards as it came . His three pair was the better three pair, earning him the pot, and the knockout once the chips were counted down.
Jose Ignacio "Nacho" Barbero started the day with 52,300 and has had a fantastic start, now sitting on a stack of 170,000.
Most recently with the board reading , his opponent shoved for about 25,000 with . Barbero made the call with and dodged a chop on the river as the fell.
Horacio Courdin opened the pot with a middle-position raise, and Robert Cezarescu three-bet from the button. In the small blind, Lee Marvin Funk moved all in for just about 16,000 total. Courdin quickly folded, and Cezarescu quickly called the small remainder to put Funk at risk.
Showdown
Cezarescu:
Funk:
The flop was sweet and relatively clean for the at-risk player, coming out . The on the turn, though, was not so safe at all. Funk let out a quick, "Ugh!" at the sight of his opponent's two pair; he now needed to catch up to stay alive.
River: . "Yes!" said Funk, sitting back down with a big sigh of relief. First ahead, then behind, he managed to catch back up to make his saving straight on the river. "Well, it looks like I'm going to be around a little longer than I had planned today," he announced in his Irish brogue.
