Day One In The Bag; Habernig Leads!
After an intense day of tournament poker, Day One of the inaugural PokerStars.net LAPT Florianopolis Main Event has come to an end!
356 players took to the felt eight levels ago to contest one of Brazil's biggest poker tournaments in their short poker history.
Andre Akkari, Alexandre Gomes, Christian de Leon, Gualter Salles, Humberto Brenes and reigning World Champion Joe Cada were all casualties throughout the day, along with two-time back-to-back LAPT Champion Jose Ignacio Barbero. As play closed in on the final bell, Elliot Lee, Victor Ramdin and Maridu Mayrinck all bite the dust as 187 players finished the day like they started -- with chips!
Although the chip lead was possessed by a number of different players throughout the day, it will be Matthias Habernig leading the field into Day Two with an amassed 130,350 in chips. Snapping at his heels include Felipe Ramos (105,900), Mario Masciotro (102,975) and Rafael Pinheiro (98,625).
WSOP Bracelet holder and Team PokerStars Mexico member Angel Guillen is still in contention with 75,100 in chips, while Ross Bybee (67,450), Brandon Demes (41,975) and Veronica Dabul (25,225) are also still in the hunt.
The PokerNews team will again be on the floor providing exclusive coverage from 12:00pm BRT tomorrow, as the action heats up here at the PokerStars.net LAPT Florianopolis!
