Things have went south since the last time we checked in with Stuart McDonald. The young pro, who qualified for this event in a PokerStars satellite, recently stopped by our desk to inform us of his elimination.
"I played bad," McDonald admitted before telling of his demise. It happened after he rivered two pair with only to run into the rivered straight of his opponent, who held .
Even though he's gone, we encourage you to check out the following video shot with McDonald earlier in the day.
After the under-the-gun player opened to 750, Luis Perez three-bet to 1,900 from two seats over. Action folded to the player in the big blind and he re-raised all in for what appeared to be 2,875. The original raiser called, as did Perez, and they proceeded to check down the board.
Players in the hijack, cutoff, button and small blind all limped to Brian Gitter in the big blind, who opted to put in a raise to 1,300. Only the small blind folded, and it was four-way action to the flop. Gitter wasted little time in leading out for 3,050, which both the hijack and button called.
When the appeared on the turn, Gitter moved all in for 9,500, the hijack called, and the big blind got out of the way. Gitter turned over , but it was way behind the of the hijack. The was of no consequence, and a dejected Gitter exited the tournament area.
A player in middle position limped and was met with a raise to 1,450 by Daniela Horno in late position. The big blind then brought it in for a three-bet to 4,000 and the limper got out of the way. We're not exactly sure what happened next as the action was instantaneous, but we can tell you that the big blind ended up all in preflop for around 20,000!
Showdown
Horno
Big blind
Horno was in a dominating spot, but the flop gave her opponent some hope as he began calling for a jack. Unfortunately for him, and much to Horno's delight, neither the turn nor river were a jack. Horno eliminated her opponent and took down the massive pot, brining her stack to up over 60K!
All in for about 11,500, Giovanni Rodriguez was in good shape to double with against an opponent's . However, the flop gave his opponent a set of jacks. The turn changed nothing, but Rodriguez caught a flush on the river when the fell.
The paralympic table tennis star has an uplifting story and you can read more about it at the PokerStars blog.
Daniela Horno knows how to play a big tournament here in Chile. She made a deep run last year, ultimately finishing in sixth place, and she is primed to do it again as she is off to a fast start.
In a recent hand, there was around 3,000 in the pot and the big blind checked to Horno. She fired out a healthy bet of 2,600, and her opponent quickly folded. Horno showed the and raked in the pot, bringing her stack up to 40,000.
