It took nine-hour for Day 1a of Moneymaker's Road to PSPC to play down to 15%, and at the end of it Simon Green bagged the chip lead with 347,000 chips from a starting stack of 30,000.
"I went through a phase of about 10-20 hands where I just picked up really good cards," Green told PokerNews after bagging. "And I was just hitting with them!
"There was a hand where a guy bluffed me after I hit a flush. He goes all in and I tanked for a couple of minutes before calling with the second nut flush."
The first flight got underway here at Hippodrome Casino at Le Meridien, Piccadilly at midday and attracting 84 entries including PokerStars Ambassador Chris Moneymaker, Katie Swift, Jimmy Kebe, Craig Sweden, and Asif Warris.
All of these players will have to grab a seat for Day 2 from a different flight after busting out, with Moneymaker flopping two pair only to lose out to a rivered straight and bust shortly thereafter. Similarly, Warris lost a classic race against Kebe, but both failed to see it through to the end of the day.
Green bagged the biggest stack, ahead of Eduardo Schneider (pictured) and Jai Patel who both bagged the same stack of 319,500 chips.
Victor Hairapetyan (309,000) is the only other player over 300,000, with only five players above average in chips when play halted.
Day 2 gets underway at the revised time of 12 p.m. with the survivors from all four flights. We'll bring you full details of those advancing from tonight's Day 1b later but until then we look forward to you joining our coverage tomorrow for the Day 1c and 1d of the Moneymaker's Road to PSPC 2020!
