Nguyen Doesn't

Kenny Nguyen
Kenny Nguyen

We understand Kenny Nguyen lost most of his chips after running his pocket jacks into two aces preflop. That left him with under 20,000, and we just watched him lose most of those as well.

Gerald Jenkinson opened the pot with a raise, and he called a three-bet from Nguyen to go heads up to the flop. It came {3-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}, and Jenkinson led out with 3,000. Nguyen called, and he called another 6,000 on the {5-Diamonds} turn. Jenkinson checked the {3-Clubs} river, and Nguyen bet 3,000 of the 4,300 he had left. Jenkinson quickly called, and Nguyen grinned as his hand was caught in the cookie jar. He showed up his {K-Spades} {Q-Spades} miss, and his opponent's {8-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} were good enough to knock Kenny down to just 1,300.

Four hands later, Nguyen put his last 900 in the pot, announcing, "Raise it!" despite not even having enough for the full big blind. He had {K-Clubs} {10-Spades}, and he was unable to stay alive as an opponent's {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} made trip aces on the turn and river.

GG, Kenny.

Astrolux Burns Out

Brent "Astrolux85" Roberts appears to be the most recent victim of Day 2. We didn't see the hand that did him in, but we did spot him walking out the doors with his backpack on, relating the story of his demise to some poor soul on the other end of the line.

Overton Doubles Through Aguiar

Action folded to the blinds and Aaron Overton, who was in the big blind, ended up all in for around 24,000 against Jonathan Aguiar.

Aguiar: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Overton: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

Overton was in good shape to double up and furthered his lead when the flop fell {7-Spades}{3-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. The {7-Hearts} turn and {4-Spades} river changed nothing and Overton doubled to around 53,000. Meanwhile, Aguiar took a hit and is down to 42,000.

Aguiar is the only person to have cashed in all NAPT Main Event but will need a strong showing today if he is to keep that streak alive.

Tiny Hit to Fischman's Big Stack

Scott Fischman was in middle position and raised to 2,500. Only the player in the cutoff called as the flop came down {9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. Fischman bet 3,000 and the cutoff made the call.

Fischman continued his aggression when the {10-Clubs} hit the turn by betting 5,500, which the cutoff called. When the {J-Diamonds} appeared on the river, Fischman slowed down with a check, the cutoff bet 5,000, and Fischman insta-mucked. Although he lost that one, Fischman is still in great shape with 225,000.

Mercier Not So O-Kay

Bryn Kenney raised to 3,000 from the cutoff seat before it was Jason Mercier's turn to act. Mercier represents Team PokerStars Pro USA. He three-bet Kenney to 7,600 from the button. Josh Kay was in the small blind and took some time before four-betting to 16,600. Eric "Sheets" Haber thought about it in the big blind for a brief moment and then folded. Kenney followed right behind him into the muck, but Mercier didn't go away so easily. He made the call to bring him and Kay to the flop.

The first three community cards came down {9-Clubs}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Kay was first to act and fired 16,600, the same amount he four-bet to preflop. Mercier took his time and made the call.

The turn card added the {K-Clubs} to the board, completing a possible flush draw. Kay moved all in, somewhat fumbling his chips together as he pushed them over the line. He was all in for approximately 53,000 and Mercier tanked. He thought for about a minute and a half before flicking his cards into the muck. Kay was awarded the pot while Mercier was left with 112,000 in chips.

Thayer Coolered; Grippo Holds the Lead Again

Thayer Rasmussen
Thayer Rasmussen

Gavin Griffin opened with a raise to 2,700 from the cutoff seat, and Nick Grippo three-bet to 7,200 next door. In the small blind, Thayer Rasmussen peeked down at {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} and four-bet to 15,200 straight. Griffin folded, but Grippo reraised to 27,200. Rasmussen six-bet shoved for about 140,000 total, and the call came instantly as Grippo turned up his {A-Spades} {A-Clubs}.

The {Q-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {8-Hearts} flop was no good for Rasmussen, and the turn {7-Spades} and river {4-Diamonds} sent him out the double doors.

For Grippo, that pot gives him a big chip lead again, up over 400,000 and well clear of the pack for now.

Crocodile Rock

Jim Meehan
Jim Meehan

We happened to stumble upon a very entertaining hand. With about 8,000 in the pot and a flop of {10-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{3-Spades}, "Minneapolis" Jim Meehan bet 2,800 and Justin "Boosted J" Smith called behind. The dealer burned and turned the {6-Clubs} and Meehan bet 13,800, leaving himself 26,900 behind.

"If you beat me this hand, sonny boy, I'll give you my crocodile hat," Meehan offered Smith, although it didn't appear he knew he was up against an established pro. After about 90 seconds Smith moved all in for a total of 41,000.

Meehan was not thrilled and tanked. He stood up from his seat, sat back down, and stood up again. "I find that very hard to believe young man," he said. There was some more silence as he pulled out a cigarette and inserted it into his mouth. Meehan was about to launch into a story when the player in Seat 6 called a clock. Meehan wanted to know who the culprit was as the floor began the countdown. With eight seconds left, Meehan mucked. He did not give Smith, who is up to 60,000, the coveted crocodile hat.
