Day 1b is No More

Day 1b of the PokerStars.net NAPT Los Angeles is in the books after nine levels. Another 373 players added their names to the registration list by the time the window closed this afternoon to bring the total field up to a respectable 701 for this inaugural stop in the City of Angels. When the clock ticked down to double zero, it was Kim Frederiksen bagging up the big stack to conclude an action-packed day of card playing.

Things went well for the North American Team PokerStars Pros today. Joe Cada was recently freed of the “Defending WSOP Champion” title, and he enjoyed a quick rise to the top of the leaderboard this afternoon. His bag is filled with 78,900 chips at the end of the night. Canadians Greg DeBora, Marcello del Grosso, Anh Van Nguyen, and Daniel Negreanu all survived their opening flight as well.

The chip lead changed hands several times during the last orbits of the night, and Hafiz Khan was the one of the final beneficiaries of the late-day shenanigans. It was during the last three hands of the night that Khan's stack ballooned to chip leader status when a {6-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} flop drove some serious action. The monster pot we just posted pushed Khan into a momentary lead, but Frederiksen wrestled that lead away at the end of the night, leapfrogging up to 237,000.

That's good enough to lead the Day 2 field tomorrow, just edging out Day 1a big stack Nick Grippo (235,100) for those honors. The ~325 survivors will be back here tomorrow at 1:00pm for the second day and the push on towards the money.

We'll see you then.
