Milly For Zhao, Pain For Mao

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

We didn't see the action prior to the river, but Jianwen Mao has just seen most of chips shipped Xiaobo Zhou's way.

The board read {j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{a-Clubs}, and the ace on the river proved pivotal. There was around 330,000 already in the middle, and Mao checked it before Zhou fired a bet of what looked to be 170,000. After thinking long and hard - and eventually having the clock called on him - Mao would make the call.

Mao: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Zhou: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Both had paired the ace on fifth street but Zhou had the better kicker with the king. Mao was understandably frustrated and drops to 131,000, while Zhou had reached the one million mark.

More Chips For Cheerful Chen

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Chuanshu Chen has added even more to his stack, courtesy of a bluff by Yuefeng Pan.

There was a modest pot out there and a board of {4-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}{k-Hearts} when we arrived. Pan had checked, and Chen led for 25,000 which was then check-raised to 110,000. Chen was thinking for a minute before making the call, bringing the {k-Diamonds} river, double pairing the board.

Pan checked this time and Chen would check it back. Pan showed {6-Spades}{7-Spades} for a gutshot draw that missed, and Chen revealed {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for lucky eights that flopped a full house.

Chen was pretty happy after that win (I think he said something along the lines of 'I thought you had a king'), and he's up to 1.4 million now while Pan dips to 490,000.

Feng Misstep Results in Bust; Chen Takes Lead

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Chuanshu Chen takes the chip lead
Chuanshu Chen takes the chip lead

An absolutely monster pot went down between Chuanshu Chen and Day 1B frontrunner Shun Yan Feng that left the latter on life support and shot the former to the top of the counts.

It was Feng who was the architect of his own demise after opening to 25,000 from under-the-gun and getting re-raised by Chen one seat over. Feng made the call to take the action to a flop of {5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and this is where the fireworks went off.

Feng checked and Chen led out for 125,000 and the action was back on Feng, who thought it over for 30-seconds or so before pulling the trigger and moving all-in for 558,000. Chen rocked back in his seat and took off his sunglasses, before grilling Feng on what sort of hand he had. This was all conducted in Mandarin, but we got the gist of it. It took an extremely long time for Chen to make a decision and play halted on two of the other three tables as the other players wandered over to watch the gigantic pot play out.

 Shun Yan Feng
Shun Yan Feng; from big stack to bust

Chen must have picked up a tell, or some other information as he abruptly made up his mind and slammed down the call, and a reluctant Feng had to turn his hand over. Feng had made a ballsy semi-bluff with {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} but Chen had one of his outs with {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for top, top. Chen gave an ecstatic cry of 'Yes!' when the {4-Clubs} river bricked out and Feng was left with a 20,000 bowl of rice. Chen stacked up to 1.25-million to seize the chip lead.

Feng was out the next hand, with the majority of his chips in from the big blind. While he had {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts} with which to make a stand, this was outdrawn by the {j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} of Yuefeng Pan, who was the man driving the action after raising the cutoff pre-flop. Feng's final board ran out {4-Spades}{a-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{j-Hearts} with Pan pairing his jack on the river to thin the field by one.

What Happens When Big Stacks Collide? They Shake Hands

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Wayne Zhang
Wayne Zhang

Poker can be a very friendly game. Just ask Ivan Leow.

He's had the Midas touch this week, taking down the OPC High Roller earlier in the festival, and then crushing the Main Event to come into the day as chip leader. It's no wonder he's in a friendly mood, so when another big stack belonging to Wayne Zhang opened to 28,000 from middle position and Leow was his only caller in the cutoff, Leow reached out for a handshake before the flop was dealt. Zhang accepted, and they got down to business.

The flop fell {j-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and Zhang put in a continuation bet of 30,000. Leow made the call to see the {2-Diamonds} turn, but now Zhang slowed down and checked. Leow took over the betting and made it 55,000, but Zhang didn't budge.

The river was the {2-Spades} putting three deuces on board. Zhang checked it again, and Leow gave it some thought before checking back. Zhang turned over {q-Spades}{j-Clubs} for deuces full of jacks, and that was good when Leow mucked.

Hwang Takes from Chung, Huang Finishes the Job

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Kin Fai Chung
Kin Fai Chung

Kin Fai Chung's tournament is now over, courtesy of Xiao Ruo Huang, though Hong Kong's Sang Hwang took a lot of Chung's chips before Huang showed him the door.

We arrived the hand before Chung's exit and caught him in action in a blind on blind battle against fellow countryman Hwang in a big pot, with over 200,000 already in the middle. The community cards were spread {j-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Hwang had put Chung to the test and moved all-in from the small blind.

Chung tanked for several minutes before the clock was called, eventually folding after the full 30-seconds had elapsed. The very next hand and it was all over for him. Chung moved all-in for his last 110,000 from the small blind with {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and was quickly called by big blind Xiao Ruo Huang with {a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}.

While Chung looked to be in great shape for a double-up, the poker gods had other ideas and Huang spiked his ace on the turn when the board ran out {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{a-Spades}{2-Hearts} to send a disappointed Chung to the rail and stack Huang up to 660,000.

Cai's Feeling Flush

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

After all of Xia Qing Ji's hard work earlier (winning three pots in a row), he's just doubled up Peng Cheng Cai and lost most of his chips in the process.

Cai opened from the hijack and Ji called on the button to bring a {4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop. Cai then ripped his entire stack in - 128,000 - and after weighing up his options Ji would make the call. It turned out to be a good one, as Ji's {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} was ahead of Cai's {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} flush draw. But the {a-Diamonds} turn instantly improved Cai and left Ji drawing dead.

"Yes! YES!" shouted Cai as the dealer pushed the pot his way. Meanwhile, Ji stepped away from the table to take a breather.
