William Tonking is sporting a Dallas jersey today, and was excited early on as his Cowboys won an important overtime game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, the game playing out on the television screens here in the poker room.
That game now over, Tonking has been focusing more on maintaining his slightly above average chip stack, and just now opened with a button raise to further that cause. Coury Mascagni defended his big blind, and the pair saw the flop come . Mascagni considered for a moment then checked, and Tonking checked behind.
The turn brought the and Mascagni checked again. Tonking bet 13,000 this time, and Mascagni eyed his opponent for a short while before setting out a raise to 60,000. Like a team punting away on fourth-and-long, Tonking quickly pitched his cards dealerward.
Tam Minh Nguyen opened from early position, then when it folded back to John Chapman he reraised all in from the blinds for 39,500 more. Nguyen tanked for a couple of minutes, then called with the . Chapman showed , and after the board came ten-high — — Chapman had doubled to survive once more.
Suraj Dalal was comfortable with a stack of about 250,000 roughly 15 minutes ago, but is down to the felt now.
With the board reading , Ian Searing bet 21,000 and Suraj Dalal went all in for what looked to be about 170,000. Searing called after a few moments with , miles ahead of Dalal's . The river failed to save Dalal and after the chips were counted out, Dalal's 173,000 was less than the 180,000-ish in Searing's stack.
Ketan Pandya was all in for roughly 60,000 with and found action from Suraj Dalal with . The board rolled out to give Pandya two pair on the turn to take down the pot.
John Chapman limped in from the hijack seat, then Chris Klodnicki raised to 9,000 from the cutoff. It folded back to Chapman who jammed for 38,900 total, and Klodnicki called.
Chapman showed and Klodnicki , and after the board came Chapman doubled his short stack.
It's been a relatively quiet Level 16, with a couple of skirmishes and a few eliminations, though the pace of play has slowed somewhat as we near the next break. At the moment 24 remain, gathered around three eight-handed tables.
Over at Table 34, Edward Pham and Richard Allen have the big stacks with about 275,000 each. Meanwhile, Coury Mascagni continues to battle with a below average stack of about 120,000, while Jennifer So — the last woman standing — has a little less than that.
Table 40 has been the most talkative table by far among the final three, with Micah Raskin and Vince Baldassano leading the often entertaining table talk over the last hour. Raskin and Klodnicki are the big stacks there, each with more than 400,000, while John Chapman is on the short side with less than 100,000.
And over at Table 41, Daniel Wach leads the way with more than 450,000 while Alan Kraut is on the short side with about 105,000.
