Schwartz Makes Two Pair Against Negreanu

Two pair good for Schwartz
Two pair good for Schwartz
Luke Schwartz raised the button with the {Q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. Giovanni Safina was in the small blind with the {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades} and called and then Daniel Negreanu called with the {K-Spades}{10-Clubs} from the big blind.

The flop came down {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{3-Clubs} and everyone got a little piece of it, but action checked around.

The turn was the {2-Clubs} and Safina checked. Negreanu bet 50,000 and Schwartz called with his two pair. Safina folded.

The river was the {5-Hearts} and Negreanu checked. Schwartz bet 50,000 and Negreanu called, but only to lose to Schwartz's two pair.

Tran Gets Shorter

Luke Schwartz raised to 23,000 with the {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and JC Tran called from the big blind with the {A-Spades}{8-Clubs}. Phil Laak argued that Tran should have raised all in or folded given his small stack size. He then stated that it might be a stop-n-go play.

The flop came down {9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and Tran checked. Schwartz bet 28,000 and Tran mucked.

JC Tran Eliminated in 6th Place ($6,000)

Tran eliminated
Tran eliminated
JC tran fired the turn holding {A-?}{6-?} on a board of {9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} into Luke Schwartz who held two pair with the {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. Schwartz just flat-called the bet.

The river was the {6-Diamonds} and Tran picked up a pair of sixes. Now with some better showdown value, he checked to Schwartz. Schwartz bet enough to put Tran all in and Tran made the call after a while in the tank. Schwartz tabled the best hand, having got Tran to put all of his chips in with the worst of it after the final card had been dealt on board and sent Tran to the rail. Schwartz moved up to 820,000 chips.

Tony G Eliminated in 5th Place ($8,000)

Luke Schwartz raised with the {A-Spades}{2-Clubs} and then Daniel Negreanu reraised with the {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}. Tony G looked down at the {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} and moved all in. Schwartz folded and Negreanu snap-called. All of this happened very fast within a few moments of JC Tran exiting the tournament.

The board ran out {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and that was it for Tony G. He did earn four points and $8,000 for his finish. Tony G hopped on his own bike and rode out of the tournament area after losing.
