Mike Leah

Mike Leah bet 4,500 on the end from the cutoff after an under-the-gun opponent checked a {q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{9-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{a-Spades} board. The player called after a minute or so of thought, and Leah turned over {k-Spades}{10-Spades} for the nut straight.

Hunichen Can't Beat Top Two

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

In a three-bet pot, Chris Hunichen was on the button and called 800 from a player in the big blind on a {q-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} flop. The player fired again for 1,200 on the {10-Hearts} turn, and Hunichen raised to 3,000. His opponent called, and both players checked the {10-Diamonds} river.

"Ace-king," the big blind said, turning over {a-Spades}{k-Spades}. Hunichen couldn't beat it.

Small Hit to Cody

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Jake Cody and an opponent looked down at a flop of {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. With about 1,700 already in the middle, action checked over to Cody who fired out 950. His opponent called and the {K-Diamonds} fell on fourth street. Two checks allowed the {8-Clubs} to finish the board and suddenly Cody was faced with a bet of 1,200 from his opponent.

Cody opted to kick his cards into the muck and his stack fell to about 31,500.

WIlliam Rogers opened the action in early position with a raise to 300 and was called by Konstantinos Pantaridis. It was folded over to Mohsin Charania, who made it 1,100 to go. Rogers and Pantaridis wasted little time in folding and the good-natured Charania turned over one card, the {A-Spades}, followed by his other card, the {A-Clubs}.

Leah's Kicker is Good

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

We arrived at the table with a pot of 800 and three players seeing a turn of {K-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. It was checked to Mike Leah in late position who bet 250 and was called by one player.

The river was the {6-Clubs} and both players checked. Leah's opponent turned over {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} but Leah was just a bit better with his {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. Leah had a remarkable 2014 with winnings of more than $2.1 million and is looking to get off on the right foot in 2015.

Riess Over Buddiga

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Ryan Riess raised to 250 from late position and found a single call from Pratyush Buddiga in the big blind. The two watched on as the flop came down {2-Spades}{9-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. Buddiga checked dark to the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event champion and he opted to check the flop as well.

The turn was the {5-Spades} and Buddiga came out with a bet of 400. Riess flatted and the {J-Clubs} finished the board. Buddiga slowed with a check, Riess bet 775, and Buddiga called.

Riess tabled {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs} for top pair and Buddiga threw his hand into the muck. Riess is off to a nice start on the day by increasing his stack to around 32,000.

Mortensen Lays it Down

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Carlos Mortensen
Carlos Mortensen

We found Carlos Mortensen staring down an opponent after firing a four-bet to 3,500 from under the gun. The player in the small blind tanked for awhile before making the call, and the two saw {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{10-Clubs} flop. The small blind checked, and Mortensen bet 5,000. After a long tank, the small blind slid his stack in. Now it was Mortensen's turn to take his time, and after a minute or two he stacked all of his chips and stole a glance at his opponent to get a final read but decided to muck.
