Day 1a Started
The Run It Up Reno VIII has been a great series thus far, and starting today it will culminate with the $600 buy-in, $250K GTD Main Event.
The tournament is played with a big blind ante, 40-minute levels, and a 25,000-starting stack. Registration and re-entries will be open through the first 12 levels. When heads-up play is reached levels will change to 20 minutes. There will be a 15-minute break every three levels with a 60-minute dinner break at the end of Level 9.
Last October, this tournament had a $200K guarantee, which it crushed by attracting 687 entries and generating a $366,515 prize pool. Among those to get a piece of it that we expect to see in action today are Arlie Shaban (15th - $2,720), Chris Moneymaker (19th - $2,350), Jimmy Cappucci (22nd - $2,050), Alan Mastin (32nd - $1,630), and Andrew Neeme (44th - $1,330).
In the end, Twitch streamer and Big Brother Canada winner Kevin Martin and Charity Series of Poker founder Matt Stout battled it out in heads-up play. The latter ultimately prevailed to claim the title and $70,000 first-place prize.

Earlier this week, the RIU Reno VIII Scavenger Hunt played out here at the Peppermill Casino.
In order to be entered into a drawing, players had to complete a set of tasks throughout the Peppermill Casino. They included play three hands of each of the blackjack, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, and Fortune Pai Gow Poker; place a bet at craps and roulette; and finally play two orbits in the poker room, place a sportsbook bet, purchase a keno ticket, and spend $10 at the RIU merch booth.
Three winners were selected with two players receiving a Nike PokerStars duffle bag and a $125 seat. Those went to Michael Holmes and Ryan Schoonbaert.
Up top awaiting the winner was a $600 Main Event seat, dinner at the steakhouse with 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Chris Moneymaker, and a PokerStars chip set. The final name pulled and the winner of the RIU Reno VIII Scavenger Hunt was Corey Novak, who let loose a "Let's go, baby," after his name was drawn.
Novak will be looking to turn his free entry into a big payday here in the RIU Reno VIII Main Event!
Jason Somerville and his team, as well as the Peppermill Casino, today announced they'll be returning to the venue for the Run It Up Reno IX festival from October 11-21!
It's never too early to start planning, and while the exact schedule will be released at a later day, you can book your room today using code RUNITUP for 20% off!
See you in October!
A player checked a board from the hijack, and Tom Ross fired a bet of 3,000 into a pot of 2,000 from the button. The hijack called, then said, "Check in the dark," before the could fall on the river.
Ross quickly bet another 3,000, and his opponent called, only to muck upon Ross showing his for a flopped straight.
