Day 1a Completed

Presley Bags Second Straight RunGoodGear Series Day 1a Lead

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Terry Presley bagged the Day 1a lead for the second straight time.
Terry Presley bagged the Day 1a lead for the second straight time.

Terry Presley finished Day 1a of RunGoodGear.com Downstream Casino with 277,500, enough to lead the nine surviving players. A month ago at RunGoodGear.com Hard Rock Tulsa, Presley bagged another Day 1a lead before eventually finishing 30th for $1,122. The Arkansas native is no stranger to success here, having won an HPT event for nearly $77,000 in 2012.

Others among the "final table" on Day 1a included sponsored tour pros Chris Conrad (176,500), Justin Gardenhire (100,000), and Bernard Lee (39,500). Issac "Rungood" Tucker (255,500), David Murff (176,000), JW Lorett (169,500), Carroll Christiansen (124,500), and Gene Alloway (86,500) rounded out the advancing group, out of a total of 90 players.

Presley's big move came in Level 14 (1,500/3,000/500). He raised to 7,000 when action folded to his small blind and then called a three-bet to about 15,000 from Will Berry. Presley then led out 30,000 on the {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop, and Berry shoved all in. Presley called it off for about 100,000 with {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a flopped flush, while Berry had {a-}{a-} with no heart. He was drawing dead after the {4-Diamonds} turn. Berry had a huge stack at the time, so he wasn't out of it, but he eventually fell in 10th to finish empty-handed.

Later in that same level, Lee opened for 7,200 and was called by Presley. Lee check-called 8,000 on an {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop. He check-called another 12,000 on the {9-Spades} turn. An {a-Spades} made trips on the board, and Lee checked once more. Presley bet 15,000, and Lee quickly called.

Presley showed {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for quads.

"Unbelievable," an upset Lee said in disgust. "The perfect card on the river for you. I had kings."

Tucker, who grabbed the lead late before Presley busted Berry to retake it, was a more consistent presence at the top of the counts. He rocketed to a big stack early after reportedly cracking aces with a set of sevens and kept it rolling throughout the day.

Some of the players who failed to make it to the end of Day 1a included Bryan Campanello, Lauren Kling, Michael Sanders, Ben Reason, Amanda Baker, Ryan Tepen, Joe Hebda, Brady Bullard, Jonathan Gaviao, and Ross Bybee.

Bullard had to stomach a painful exit at the hands of Conrad, who four-bet all in after a Bullard three-bet. Bullard called with {j-}{j-} and flopped a set, but Conrad ran a flush with {a-}{k-}.

Bullard and Bybee were two of the four players who chopped RunGoodGear.com Hard Rock Tulsa last month, each taking home around $24,000. If they want to repeat the feat, they'll have to return for Saturday's Day 1b. PokerNews will be back for then for more coverage of this event at 1 p.m. local time.

Will Berry was the unfortunate bubble.

Will Berry just busted out in 10th to end Day 1a. According to a player at the table, he got it all in with {a-}{q-} against Terry Presley's {7-}{7-}. Berry flopped a pair to take the lead, but Presley spiked a {7-} on the river to eliminate him.

Tucker Ships Dark

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Issac Tucker opened to 10,000 in early position and was called by the player to his left. Terry Presley made it 25,500 on the button, and only Tucker came along. Tucker checked the {j-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop, and Presley bet 35,000. Tucker cut out 35,000 and then reach back into his stack.

The floor was called, and the ruling was that Tucker had called since he cut the chips out and left them in front of his cards.

"I'm all in dark," he said, as the dealer placed a {3-Hearts} down.

Presley thought only briefly before mucking.

Lee Doubles

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Justin Gardenhire opened for a raise and then called the shove of Bernard Lee, who had 17,500 on the button.

"You got it in good," Gardenhire said with a smile, turning {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}.

Lee had {a-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}, a dominating hand.

"You got it in really good."

The board was clean for Lee, {10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}.
