Today begins the final day of The RunGood Poker Series Checkpoint at Jamul Casino In San Diego, California. The conclusion of the $600 Main Event kicking off the day at 12 pm, while multiple one day events begin and end at the same time.

Last year saw Nova Baghdasarian best a field of 460 entrants to take home a first place prize of $40,950 after a heads up deal with Rich Alsup. A new champion is sure to emerge this year with a grand total of 533 entrants who came out to play this year’s iteration, putting the prizepool at $277,160 with a first place prize at $52,820.

Leading the 67 entrants into Day 2 is Russell Davies, who bagged a whopping 727,000 during the second flight of the tournament. Davies is no stranger to deep runs in big tournaments, holding just over $250,000 in lifetime earnings on Hendon Mob dating back to 2006, but a victory in a RGPS event has eluded him thus far. With his massive chip stack, he looks to change that and add this ring to his resume.

His road to victory won’t be easy, as a stacked field remains that includes Joey Gargiulo (512,000), Rip Fritzer (443,000), Tim Acker (426,000), Brian Frenzel (317,000), last year’s third place finisher Mark Feinberg (291,000), Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano (193,000), last year’s runner up Rich Alsup (180,000), and form RGPS Jamul Main Event champion Noel Eicher (140,000).

Play ended with 14 minutes left in Level 15 with blinds at 4,000/8,000 and an 8,000 big blind ante. The blinds will shift from thirty minute levels to forty minute levels with 15-minute breaks after every three levels. Play will continue down until a winner is crowned at the end of the day.
