Travell Thomas Eliminated

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Travell Thomas just busted for the third time in this event, but he won't have a chance to re-enter this time. Thomas moved all in for 8,600 from middle position with {A-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and Johannes Mueller called directly behind with the {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}. The {J-Clubs}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} board provided a little excitement but it wasn't enough to save Thomas. We'll be hearing much more Travell on Saturday during the Main Event.

De Cantis Doubles

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Picking up with the action on a board of {3-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, Carm De Ciantis checked over to her opponent who bet out 2,600. De Ciantis flat called to see the {J-Clubs} complete the board on the river. De Ciantis moved all in for what looked to be around 5,800 and her opponent snapped her off, showing {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}.

De Ciantis rolled over {8-Hearts}{8-Spades} for eights full of treys and the best hand. She was able to drag in the pot and this double up puts her above starting stack with about 28,000 in chips.

Jeff Joseph Cruising

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Jeff Joseph told us he got lucky about an hour ago with {A-}{K-} against {A-}{A-} to win a 60,000 pot. He's certainly been doing some work since then.

Joseph, who was down to 4,000 earlier in the day, is now leading the way with around 180,000. Joseph was on a poker hiatus until this event, saying he hadn't played since June at the WSOP where he cashed three times. He's on his way toward scooping another cash here.

Roberts Gives Some Back

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We opened this level by reporting that Mark Roberts is the new chip leader. We're pretty sure he still owns that title, but his stack just took a slight hit. With the board showing {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, the player in Seat 3 bet 5,200 out of the big blind and the player in Seat 4 raised to 16,400 directly behind. Roberts then moved all in, having both players easily covered, and the original bettor went into the tank. After at least a minute he let his hand go, and Seat 4 called instantly.

Roberts: {6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Seat 4: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Roberts was in dire straits against top set but reminded his opponent that he could still make quads. He got halfway there when the {6-Spades} hit the turn, but the {Q-Spades} on the river sent the entire pot over to his opponent. Roberts still boasts a monstrous stack of 123,000.

Spears Doubles

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We picked up with the action on a monotone flop of {10-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Spades} to find Andrew Spears heads up with an opponent. Spears' opponent open shipped on the flop and after a shrug and a moment to weigh his options, Spears called for his tournament life.

Spears shows {A-Spades}{3-Clubs} for ace-high and the nut spade draw against his opponent's {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a pair of eights. Spears paired up and took the lead with the {A-Clubs} on fourth street and was able to secure a double after the {9-Clubs} completed the board.

After scoring the double up, Spears sits right around 51,000 in chips.
