Roscoe Short Not Short

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Brett Short
Brett Short

Brett "Roscoe" Short just became the latest recipient of Jerry Calvaneso's generosity.

"Calvaneso donked them off to me," Short said when asked how he accumulated his chips.

In truth, Calvaneso called a four-bet out of position, flopped a pair of fours and got it in against Short's pocket kings to go broke.

Short now has over 70,000 and counting as Calvaneso watches from the rail.

Out Of The Block

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

2014 Seneca Fall Poker Classic champ Rick Block got off to a slow start today, but just found a way up the counts.

He opened up with a raise, then called a shorty shoving {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts} with the {a-Spades}{q-Spades}. The {a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} board did the trick for Rick.

Break!

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

The players are now off on a 15-minute break as the tournament staff colors up the T-25 green chips.

When they return for the start of Level 9 the registration and re-entry period for this flight will close. Players can still get back in the event, however, with another starting flight set for 6 p.m. tonight and two more tomorrow.

Leonardi Picks One Off

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Carol Leonardi
Carol Leonardi

After two players limped in, local Carol Leonardi bumped it to 1,700 from the cutoff.

Only one called and the flop came the {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}. The limper checked and Leonardi followed suit. The turn came the {4-Diamonds} and after the limper checked, Leonardi threw out a blue 1,000-denomination chip.

The limper called, then led 2,000 on the {8-Spades} river. Leonardi quickly called with the {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} and raked the pot after her opponent mucked.

Calvaneso Rises From The Ashes

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Jerry Calvaneso
Jerry Calvaneso

After getting burned earlier, Jerry Calvaneso scraped off the char and found a way back to close to triple the starting stack here in Level 8.

He sent two players to the rail recently, one of which was willing to call it off with queens against his two pair with a one-card straight on board.

Abraham Leads!

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
John Abraham
John Abraham

John Abraham had kings over {a-}{k-}, trip fives over kings and made a good call on the river with tens over nines to push up to 120,000 over this past level.

As a result, he's up above Jeffrey Hobrecker and into chip lead position as Level 7 comes to a close.

The Show Must Go On

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Jeffery Hobrecker
Jeffery Hobrecker

The Jeffery Hobrecker show continues here as he just felted another foe and is the first player past the 100,000-chip post.

This time he cracked aces with jacks, flopping a full house to bust one relatively short stack and extend his chip lead at the mid-point of the day.
