Day 1a Started
For the past week, poker players have flocked to the Seneca Niagara Poker Room for the first six events of the 2015 Western New York Poker Challenge. Today, the action moves up to the balcony of the Seneca Niagara Casino & Resort with the first starting flight of the flagship $1,000 Main Event, which boasts a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool.
The Main Event is a two-day tournament (potentially three days) with registration and unlimited re-entries available for the first nine levels on Day 1a and Day 1b. Players will begin with 30,000 in chips with 45-minute blind levels on the first day, with the eventual champion being crowned on Sunday or Monday, time permitting. Last year, Nick Walker took down the Western New York Poker Challenge Main Event for more than $37,000 after a three-way deal with Kyle Gay and Andre Smith.
We're expecting to see Walker return to defend his title this week, as well as many of the best poker players in the Niagara Falls region. Play kicks off at 11 a.m. and we will be here providing all of the latest from the tournament floor. Be sure to stay tuned as this exciting event begins!
The players have taken their seats, the cards have been shuffled, and we're underway here at the 2015 Western New York Poker Challenge Main Event! The blinds begin at 50/100 and will last for 45 minutes through the end of Day 1.
We're heading out to the floor to see who's here.

A big hand just took place before the end of Level 1, and Peter Raimondi recapped it for us.
Three players saw a flop with 6,000 already in the pot. Action checked to Paul McLean in Seat 1 and he led out for 4,000. Raimondi called from the button and the other player got out of the way.
A hit the turn and McLean fired 8,000. Raimondi called again, bringing the on the river. McLean slowed down with a check and then called a 5,000 bet from Raimondi.
Raimondi showed the for a rivered straight, and his opponent tabled for a flopped set. Raimondi is the early man to catch in the Main Event.
