A 30-year-old poker pro from Orono, Minnesota, took down the 2015 Mid-States Poker Tour Canterbury Park Main Event on Sunday night.

Carl Carodenuto used an unpredictable and often maniacal style to earn the title and $116,103 first-place prize that came with it, besting a field of 470 entries when it was all said and done.

From two starting days that drew a Minnesota State record field, 93 players returned on Sunday to vie for the championship. They moved quickly past the 45-player money bubble and onto the final table of 10 that began with Willie Olson in the lead.

It wasn't long before DJ Buckley lost a race against Saad Ghanem to bust 10th, and MSPT Meskwaki winner Rich Alsup failed to outdraw Ryan Tyler's dominating ace to end up ninth, guaranteeing that Mark Hodge would pick up the coveted MSPT Player of the Year title.

Olson then extended his lead, shoving over a Vladimir Revniaga raise with pocket tens, getting called by Revniaga on nines and holding.

Short stack Dan Favreau then helped Carodenuto heat up when he ran jacks into his aces to bow out seventh, and after a period of chips flying around the table with no one busting, Brian Berthiaume ran ten-high into Kirby Rogers' ace-high and said goodbye in sixth.

Olson's run good continued when he dispatched Ryan Tyler in fifth, finding a pair with the dominated {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} versus his {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}. Plus, he busted a short-stacked Ghanem in fourth to take a lead into three-handed play.

That lead would not last, however, as he soon shipped fours into Carodenuto's sevens and handed it over to him.

Olson then busted third when Rogers slow-played kings to perfection against him to double through and leave him short and shoving.

Rogers appeared to be running over Carodenuto heads up, taking advantage of a some blind bets and snatching the lead away from him with some timely aggression, but after they took a break, Carodenuto returned to take it back.

First he called down a three-barreled bluff with bottom pair and then he got it in with big slick in great shape and held to capture MSPT glory and the lion's share of the event's prize pool.

Carodenuto's win marked the end of the wildly successful sixth season on the MSPT and with that, the PokerNews Live Reporting team bids you farewell from Minnesota.

Kirby Rodgers Eliminated in 2nd Place ($67,024)

Kirby Rogers

Carl Carodenuto check-called bets of 200,000, 500,000 and 1.2 million on a {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs} board with the {10-Hearts}{2-Hearts} against Kirby Rodgers' {7-Hearts}{9-Spades} to take the lead.

Moments later, Rogers got it all in with the {8-Spades}{6-Spades} versus Carodenuto's {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} and the board rolled out {q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} to give Carodenuto the title.

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante

Kirby Rogers limped the small blind and Willie Olson checked his option. The flop fell {4-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and after a check from Rogers, Olson shoved.

Rogers snap-called with the slyly played {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} and Olson had the {3-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Kings held on a {6-Hearts} turn and {9-Spades} river to double Rogers and leave Olson on life support.

He doubled twice, but eventually ran out of gas, busting with a weak king to Rogers' weak ace.

Rogers will now take on Carl Carodenuto heads up for the title.

Brian Berthiaume opened for 150,000 and Carl Carodenuto made it 300,000.

Dan Favreau called all in for 285,000 and Berthiaume called, before checking the {k-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop. Carodenuto fired another 150,000 and Berthiaume let it go.

Carodenuto showed the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} and Favreau the {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}, exiting seventh when the {5-Hearts} turn and {5-Spades} river did not save him.

Vladimir Revniaga raised the button to 115,000 and Willie Olson shipped it in from the small blind.

It came back on Revniaga and he called it off with the {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. Olson had the {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} and the bigger pair held on a {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Spades} board.

Olson is now the overwhelming chip leader seven handed as Revniaga hits the rail.

Rich Alsup open shipped and Ryan Tyler came over the top all in for more. The rest folded and it was Alsup's {a-Hearts}{5-Spades} needing help versus Tyler's {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}.

Alsup did not get enough on the {A-Clubs}{k-Spades}{j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} board and said goodbye ninth.

With Alsup's and DJ Buckley's eliminations, Mark Hodge is now officially the 2015 MSPT Player of the Year.

DJ Buckley open shoved his last 205,000 and Saad Ghanem made the call on the button.

The blinds folded and Buckley was in with {a-Spades}{j-Clubs} versus Ghanem's {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. The {9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop was enough to send Buckley out tenth and the {j-Spades}{q-Diamonds} run out meant nothing.
