Bohn Has the Goods

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Two players checked to Blake Bohn on a {4-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop, and he bet 8,000. One player in early position took about a minute to think things over before shoving for about 30,000, while the other player folded. Bohn immediately called and tabled {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}. His opponent held {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for an inferior overpair, adding an inferior flush draw on the {j-Diamonds} turn, though a non-diamond eight would now win it for him. The {7-Spades} wasn't what he needed, and Bohn added to his already-monstrous stack.

Vanstrom Gets it All

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Jason Vanstrom, pictured during his 10th-place finish here.

Jason Vanstrom was all in for about 23,000 from the small blind when we arrived at his table on a {9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop. A player who had put in 1,600 folded from middle position, while another player who had a red T5,000 chip in front of him called.

Vanstrom: {a-Hearts}{4-Spades}
Opponent: {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

Vanstrom was miles ahead but got a major sweat when a {k-Clubs} turn gave his opponent a flush draw. The {2-Diamonds} river was a safe blank, and Vanstrom collected all but the last 2,175 from his opponent. The rest of that went in the pot preflop on the very next hand, and Vanstrom called with {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, live cards against {a-Spades}{j-Spades}. He flopped a nine and held on.

Vanstrom Doubles Up

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Jason Vanstrom made the final last time the Mid-States Poker Tour was here, in November 2014. He busted 10th then for $6,305, and he just doubled up with {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} against a player holding {j-}{j-}. Despite the win, Vanstrom, who started the hand with just under 11,000, is still below the starting stack.

Gonzales Climbing; Givens Enters

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Will Givens
Will Givens

We apologize for the delay in updates, as technical issues held up the coverage briefly. In the mean time, Will Givens has entered the tournament. Givens is a regular at Mid-States Poker Tour stops here in his home state, having made the final table of the event here in March of last year, where he scored $15,855 for sixth place. Givens then hit it big at the WSOP last year, taking down his first bracelet along with $306,634 in prize money in Event #45: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em. He also made the final table of Event #33: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em, where he finished fourth for $84,680.

At another table, Danny Gonzales has managed to shoot up to more than 100,000 in chips, a fantastic start in the early levels.
