Jaka Nursing a Short Stack
Faraz Jaka was just down to his last 2,700 and re-shoved it in the small blind over an open to 1,500 from the player on the button. The big blind folded and then the player on the button called.
Faraz Jaka:
Opponent:
Jaka's opponent's second card was directly beneath his first and not visible, causing a couple of players at the table to ask what it was as the board ran out .
Jaka's opponent did not reach for chips or make any gesture towards winning the pot, signaling that Jaka's ace-king high was best. The dealer reached over and slid the top card off of the one underneath it, revealing to confirm that Jaka's jack kicker earned him the double to stay alive.

A Look at Last Weekend's MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event
Last weekend, the 2020 Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Venetian $1,100 Main Event saw young up-and-comer Landon Tice capture a $201,529 top prize, his first career score in the live realm of poker and in what was only his third live poker tournament. Tice outlasted a field of 1,123 entries in doing so, a figure that generated a total prize pool of more than $1 million.
Prior to this tournament, the 21-year-old from Boca Raton, Florida had just three online tournament cashes on his resume from this past summer: Tice got his start in poker by playing micro-stakes cash games online and has worked his way up, a journey highlighted by a mentor of sorts in Joey Ingram. Tice can now add an MSPT championship to his list of accomplishments.
"It feels good, you know," said Tice after the tournament was over. "It feels so good!"
Tice won after a hard-fought heads-up battle against Brandon Lombardo that capped off a four-hour-long final table. Lombardo entered the match as a three-to-one underdog and held his ground, ultimately finding a double and taking the chip lead for a short time. However, nearly-even stacks went in when Tice made two pair on the river and he doubled to shorted Lombardo, who called Tice's shove with top pair.

2019 MSPT Player of the Year Shin Sighted
The 2019 MSPT Player of the Year Mike Shin has just been spotted in his seat at Table 1. Shin finished in ninth place at last week's $1,100 Main Event, continuing his MSPT success from the prior year, and looks to find a bag on Day 1b after failing to do so in yesterday's Day 1a.
Also at Shin's table is Blake Whittington, another familiar face to the MSPT. Whittington also fell short of advancing on his first try yesterday and is off to a better start this time around with a stack of 71,500.

Lee Wins With Pocket Rockets
There was around 23,000 in the middle with three-way action on a board of and a player in middle position checked, first to act. Next up was Edwin Lee in the cutoff and he reached for chips, betting 8,000. The final player in the hand was on the button and folded, sending action back to the player in middle position, who went deep into the tank.
Nearly two minutes passed, and eventually, the player found a call. Lee showed and the dealer announced two pair, aces and sevens. The player in middle position tapped the felt with his cards and then sent them to the middle of the table face down, earning Lee the pot.

Turn Gives Davis a Double
There was 4,000 in the middle with four players seeing a flop of and Zach Gutierrez was first to act in the small blind. He checked, and the big blind bet 2,000. A player in middle position called to put action onto Charles Davis, who was the final player in the hand and on the button.
Davis came over the top, shoving all in for 10,000 and Gutierrez quickly folded. The middle-position player thought for about 20 seconds and then called, sending action over to the cutoff, who spent over a minute in the tank before folding.
Charles Davis:
Middle Position:
Davis was behind but had both pair- and straight outs versus his opponent's top pair. His pair of fives became three on the turn , firmly planting him into great shape to double, and he did just that as the river completed the runout.
