Battle of the Employees

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

The Isle of Man leg of the UKIPT is special for many reasons, one of which being the fact PokerStars and Full Tilt employees are allowed to play in the Main Event. Two such employees just clashed at Table 5, namely Baard Dahl and Ankit Ahuja.

Dahl opened to 1,800 from the cutoff and Ahuja defended his big blind with a call, before check-calling a 2,200 bet on the {5-Spades}{4-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} flop. Ahuja checked again when the dealer put the {K-Spades} onto the board and then quickly ducked out of the way when Dahl bet 4,100.

Dahl works in the PokerStars Poker Room Management team but when he's not working he's an avid poker and chess player and won the combined chess and poker tournament here at the UKIPT Isle of Man festival in 2014.

Big Bets for Big Hands

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

On a board of {2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{7-Spades}, Christopher McNicholls checked from the big blind. Kelly Saxby, who abttled with McNicholls before today, made a bet of 8,500.

McNicholls tanked for quite a bit. Eventually he called, only to get shown {3-Hearts}{5-Spades} for a flopped straight. He mucked, and the pot went to Saxby.

Dinner Break

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

The players are on their 60-minute dinner break. Check back in an hour for continuing coverage of the UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event Day 1a.

Everyone Still Loves a Chop Pot

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

James Loudon got his last 7,025 chips in before the flop from early position. Action folded to Simon Hamilton in the cutoff and he called. The button and both blinds folded and it was time for the two of 'em to table their cards.

Simon Hamilton: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
James Loudon: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

The flop came {4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and the door was already open for a chop. The {2-Spades} on the turn gave Loudon some more outs and the {3-Diamonds} on the river sealed the deal for the split pot.

Moneymaker Flies to the Top of the Counts

Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker

Former World Series of Poker Main Event champion, Chris Moneymaker raised to 1,200 from under the gun and was called by Kenneth Chih-Hung to his immediate left. Wai Kwen Yuen called from the cutoff only to see James Loudon move all-in for 11,425 from the button.

Both blinds folded and Moneymaker called only to see Chih-Hung move all-in. Moneymaker instantly called to put both players at risk of elimination.

Moneymaker: {K-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Chih-Hung: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Loudon: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

A board reading {7-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{10-Hearts} saw Moneymaker send two opponents to the sidelines and his own chip count to the top of the leaderboard.

Moneymaker informed his table mates that he's having to leave the tournament for 90-minutes once play resumes after the dinner break, this massive pot should help prevent that downtime being too costly.

Owen Can't Beat an Ace

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

Adam Owen opened for 1,400 from middle position and the player in the cutoff and Finn Zwad in the big blind both called.

The flop came {A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and Zwad checked. Owen made a 2,200 continuation bet and the cutoff immediately released. Zwad wasn't so eager to throw away his cards though, and called.

Both players checked the {K-Clubs} on the turn and the {10-Diamonds} hit the river. Zwad bet out 2,675 and Owen tossed in three 1,000 chips to call not much later.

Zwad showed {A-Spades}{2-Spades} and Owen mucked.
